Sorry Janitor, but i will not accept resume arguments here.

I want answers to respond based solely on film. Many say that the sport is too evolved he would not beat the local amateurs at the gym and could not fight professionally. So, based on film, how does he go against one of todays professionals.

No advancements, straight out of a time machine, in modern conditions he is placed in a challenge against either one of the competiors from the interim WBC Latino heavyweight fight.

Here is the film of the actual fight. Please advise which opponent you think Jim Should pick to fight and how you see this fight going.

Is the consensus that JIm doesnt have the skills, size or stamina to fight professionally today?:deal

As he appears in the footage available, I honestly believe he would struggle mightily with the likes of Nathan Cleverly and Tony Bellew.
Given time to adjust he would probably hold his own among the light heavies . I don't think he ever lacked stamina, skills? By todays standards yes. Size? At heavy he would be murdered.imo. I'm going to make another thread which I hope will complement this one. Good luck with the responses :good

So how does he do fighting for a title against the guys i showed a link of?

Do you think that big clinch and lean tactic that was attempted would be too modern for him, or are the punches thrown with too much technique?

He could probably dodge their telegraphed swings until they gassed out, then go to work on them. I've seen more expertise in my local pub!

no, i don't know anything about felix barbera so maybe he could be 1/3 of a champion at lhw if he can make 175.

"interim WBC Latino heavyweight" is probably as trash as belts can get. What were these guys ranked? Did either of these guys beat any ranked contenders?

To answer your question though, yes, I would imagine that Corbett would be able to run from either of these palookas until they collapsed out of exhaustion.

I honestly think Corbett would be fine today. Especially in his weight class lhw.

Going solely by Boxrec, here, but Vidondo (who was understandably beaten in this fight), recovered from the fight to put together an 11 fight unbeaten streak including the capture of the Argentina National title. Unfortunately his run ended when he fought for the interim WBA heavyweight World Title! So, it seems that if you acknowledge that Corbett can beat these two guys, you must acknowledge that in todays environment he is good enough to at least get a shot at a world alphabet title.

Incidentally, Costa, who was one of the top unbeaten contenders at the time of this fight. Finally lost his first fight at the hands of Christian Hammer, in what was ultimately an eliminator to see who got the WBC international title fight with Current Lineal Champion Tyson Fury. So again, these guys are themselves in the mix for titles in todays environment of Superheavies.

So, it seems these guys are not as far off the world title scene as it seems. Certainly, i would hate to meet some of the guys at the local gyms and pubs who have the speed size and skills to make them look like such amateurs. I wonder why those guys dont try their hand at professional boxing careers?

Several in my local have and a couple still do. The point you are laboriously trying to make seems to have missed its mark. Please show where any of the names you mentioned were ever world rated? The guy he beat for the title was 44 years old,and he is 39. You're going to have to do a lot better than this!

Corbett today would not be a LT hwt.

Jim was hugely trained down more like a distance runner vs a sprinters physique.

Today he would only need to go 12 rounds tops. Today he would be fed PEDS so he could train longer and more frequently. He would be a bigger and stronger athlete today.

Corbetts boxing ability gave him ATG status. Today these inherit abilities that only handfuls of fighters possess would be quite evident.

Charles Martin would have been the most feared fighter on the planet in the 1890s-1900s. Sam Langford was extraordinarily ahead for his time. He is the sole exception. Corbett would get run to the ground by any bum heavyweight.
Don't get me started on the LHWs who would obliterate him with their superior skillset compared to the HWs. Cruiserweight? Corbett's era is utterly outdated. Any fighter would have more than half of a chance at beating him.

Jim Corbett was on a whole different level as Cleverly.

According to boxrec, those guys are ranked number 200 and 47 right now, even after their subsequent losses. They would have been a lot higher at the time of this fight. Either way, on film you would have to say that Corbett is favourite to be a top 50 fighter.
