I agree the fighters who went the distance with Tyson either held excessively Green, Bonecrusher, or were movers Tillis, Tucker.

As you said Young wasn't really a fighter who danced around the ring he was a slickster who stood his ground.

ATG relentless pressure/swarmer type fighters like Frazier, Tyson, would be horrible stylistic match ups for Young.

Yeah those two would both be incredibly difficult opponents absolutely.

Green saw Tyson inside a ring too.

He did cram 6 fights into that short little period tho at a time when he was on the improve. Most were short but Ribalta was a good workout for his learning curve.

Young was very crafty and had a very good chin so it's possible but he was caught and almost taken out by Foreman in the 7th of their bout and I feel that Tyson likely catches him at one point like he caught Tubbs in Tokyo and takes him out ...

There is no fighter Jimmy couldn't consistantly go the distance against.

I have Jimmy above Tyson on my all time list probably.

The peak, or near peak Young who fought against Ali would be destroyed by the peak 1988 Mike Tyson.

Foreman #1 (from memory) and Jimmy Young above Tyson. I'm guessing if Tyson beat Foreman then Tyson would be #2.

I remember thinking out my list a list awhile back and Jimmy was like 12-15ish? And I just remember Tyson is about 20th.

How could Tyson, a lineal champion who unified and beat a host of highly rated contenders while defending his WBC belt 9 times possibly be behind Jimmy Young? Young's record is littered with losses at every stage of his career and he never won the title let alone defended it let alone unified or went lineal.

It must just be your list of favorites which makes much more sense.

Jimmy Young fought all the 70s greats except Frazier and did well against them all. I consider the 70s the best era thus give Jimmy Young deference for that. Young was only stopped by Shavers and Cooney at the very end.

Tyson in the 90s was 0-3 against elite competition.

Jimmy Young was lineal NABF champ for beating Foreman. That lineage eventually became THE HW lineage that lasted until 2003.

By the 90's Tyson already had twice the career behind him that Jimmy Young ever had. He lost twice in a row to Ocasio at age 29 then to a juvenile Michael Dokes.

It's like a crack in the bedroom wall compared to the Grand Canyon.

While there's quite a bit of room to move in rating putting Young ahead of Tyson isn't justifiable, certainly not with any context whatsoever.
