Could Joe Calzaghe still be undefeated if he fought Roy Jones Jr's opponents?

    Hi mate!

    I'm not sure ha!

We know that Hop bypassed 168 but I'm sure he could have fought there quite comfortably. So either at 168, or Toney in shape at 175.

    Regards, Loudon.

Toney beats Joe if he turns up in complete shape, and totally motivated. If he doesn't, he gets out worked, and quantity of punches will rule over quality.

Calzaghe would never fight Ruiz, but he'd beat Tarver and Johnson.

Good points... Roy's reign at LHW gets underrated a bit.. He probably didn't have any career defining wins, but he beat some very good fighters in convincing fashion, and had good longevity.. You never know, someone like Hill or Griffin could have caused Joe problems. I know there would have been a couple of those LHWs that made Joe fight life and death.. The thing is, Roy had the power to keep most of them honest for most of the fight, Joe didn't really carry that kind of power, and would have made for totally different kinds of fights.

I really would have liked to be able to throw DM in there, that is the biggest downside of Roy at LHW for me, and he would lose a lot of criticism had he fought and beat him. I think Calzaghe vs. DM would have been interesting too.

I never said Joe would lose to Johnson... But at LHW around 2004 or 2005? It would certainly be possible.

Joe's biggest strengths at that weight, were his work rate, he didn't have the power to worry anyone, he was able to stay more busy than Hopkins and squeak out a decision. Johnson would be just as busy, he would have tried to pressure and smother Joe.. Would have been very interesting.

The worst Calzaghe would beat the best Glen Johnson. Glen Johnson is tailor made for Calzaghe. Joe would eat him him up.

The Calzaghe that fought Jones, has a rough night with the Johnson that fought Jones... and that is all there is to it.

Joe wouldnt ever fight them anyway - fear of flying/losing lol. Calzaghe's obvious lack of faith in his abiltiy to win in the USA is the most worthwile opinion here, he knew himself that he'd start losing if he went abroad for any fight that wasnt a walkover/oldie he could outgass.

Good thing Jones age cured that for him.
