Anyone else feel that Joe coasted a bit after that nasty cut? Maybe it was just out of respect or maybe like they said at ringside - he was savoring the beat-down. I found it interesting that he did that. I was pulling for Roy but I really felt that Joe could have made Jones a much bloodier mess than he already was.
He fought hard after being floored, then in the seventh he hurt Jones. From that point on he seemed content in controlling the fight and clowning. Either he damaged his hand, either he was sparing Jones, maybe a mix of those, but he could easily have closed the show before the tenth if he had picked up the pace. Jones was all over the place.
He beat an old roy. That's it. Once he figured roy out after the first two rounds, it was a cake walk after that. I never saw Roy going. Calzaghe really didn't hurt Roy with his punches. Rather it looked like he hurt Roy's ego more than anything else.
Sorry to rumble you babel, but reading this i couldnt help feeling it all sounded so...familiar. Then i realised i had just read the self same thing word-for-word here http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2008/nov/09/boxing-joecalzaghe :rofl That journalist must have copied you man:rofl
He was going alright in the seventh; Roy had his back on the ropes and was eating a few lefts; the HBO announcers acknowledged the fact he got hurt. From then on all he had to do was press the action like he knows how ( he's a pressure fighter) and it would have been a matter of minutes. Instead he began clowning and offered free swings to Jones, risking being kod himself. Joe NEVER did that before, and fans knew the scores when they started booing the action during the ninth.
