How could the Brown Bomber beat Big George? I can envision him getting inside of George's big wild swings and battering him with short, crisp combinations to the head and body. But could he do that? If Foreman hits Louis, then Louis is out cold. I think if Foreman fought Joe by swinging those wild punches from the distance, Joe wouldn't stand a chance and would lose by first round K.O. What do you think? Is there any way that Louis beats Foreman?
In some 81 pro fights, George Foreman has only been stopped on one occasion. This came against the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time in a match where Foreman threw punches nonstop practically from the introduction, and in a very hot, desert like environment leading to exhaustion. Does this mean that Louis - one of the greatest punchers of all time couldn't KO him? My answer is no, absolutely not. However, the statistics of the matter are not entirely in favor of it happening. Joe on the otherhand, was KO'd by a 198 Lbs fighter in his prime, and floored some 9 or 10 times in career. Given how dangerous Foreman was within the first five rounds, and how Louis was often decked or hurt by crude punchers with even less power and less skill then Foreman, it might be a problem..
Of course Louis could KO Foreman. He could KO anybody. But would he? It really depends on who takes control of the fight. Foreman, limited as he was, was a master bully at his peak, and if he gets into his groove and starts pushing Louis around, like he did Frazier, I see him winning by KO. If Louis, on the other hand, finds his rhytm and starts to counter in between Foreman's swings then he wins, probably by KO. Could really go either way.
Foreman is tailor made for Louis. If I had to match Louis against another all time great with a view to making him look good Foreman would be my first choice.
I hold Foreman in high regard, but Louis will time him with short stuff for as long as it lasts. Not a good stylistic match-up for George.
dont undestand the argument about joes chin he fought some really good punchers an it wasnt as if he was out on his feet he bounced up every time from what i recall (bar marciano when he was old) obviously no one hit him as hard as george but still think he wouldve won
Schmelling beat his chin all night long before he finally went down. Yes he was very dazzed and stayed that way, for the longest time, for more rounds than I could belive, on ***** street as they said back then. Out side of that and the Rock, I never had an impression he was hurt...just a flash KDs Forman was only 6 foot 3 and 220 pounds...Then huge, now tiny....but Joe fought Abe Simmons, and Buddy Baer, who were huge too. In fact I think Buddy would beat Forman.....:yep I pick Joe, jsut because some one goes down don't mean he's stunned...just a tad off balance. Two Ton Toney Galento was 236 and number 1 or 2 when he put Joe down for some 4 or 5 seconds. Joe was up and back to work....Back then they had no rub the gloves clear and give a fighter another 6-8 seconds like today. Joe fought much better comp, than Forman ever did, in some 65-70 of those 82 fights Forman fought were against no one's. He fought 2 people before Frazier, Lyle being one. Joe cleaned up the division before he became Champ.
Very true. However, I think Louis was much the more complete fighter. Providing he doesn't get careless, I would say Louis' punches would havwe been too accurate for Big George. That being said, if Louis got caight cleanly, I don't know if I'm that confident of him beating the count.
No idea why people are picking George. A quick look at Louis's abilities for bringing a man onto a perfect punch combined with the way George moves in the ring is enough to tell me Louis wins. Mind you, I picked Oscar to beat Pacquiao, to be fair.
I actually think Foreman is one great Louis wouldn't have much problems against at all a terrible style for George he would counter non stop he is way to open and his punchers are too wide. This would look like Louis vs Baer but not as impressive and Foreman last and extra round or two.
It's whoever lands first as I see it. George's best chance is to come out like he did against Frazier and hope to catch Joe cold. If he can do that then he can win. If he can't then it's lights out against one of the greatest precision punching HW's (If not the greatest) of all time.
I'd pick foreman because louis had a suspect chin, being floored 8 times in his career by guys who did not equal foreman in terms of punching power. He would definitely get hit by foreman ( he was no defensive wizard) and he would go down in a heap and not get up. I greatly respect joe but i just can't help thinking about him being decked by max scmelling, jim braddock, tony galento and being badly shaken by the 173 pound billy conn, and feeling that foreman could do the same. Foreman by ko inside of 5.
