Could Judah have been much more successful if Joel wasn't his trainer?

I've watched some Judah fights of late and i can't help but notice some of the loud, annoying advice he gets from his dad between rounds. Things like, "You got to let your hands go. Boom. Boom. Boom. That's it." While he's saying this, he would be throwing his arms as an example. And i watched some video clips of his training and Joel seems to concentrate just on the shock factor of getting in flashy combinations a bit too much. Judah's got heart but i always got the sense that he wasn't trained and directed properly.

So having said that, if Judah was trained by a very good and smart trainer, could he have done much more?

Hell yeah, cause if he was trained by Mayweather Sr. he wouldn't be so out of control and he would've crafted his skilla and used his natural talent like he should be doing. But I get what you're saying, I think Mayweather Sr. is way more professional than Joel and could've took Zab to unlimited heights in his career. I think alot would be different as far as attitude and learning, the whole process would be better and easier. I get exactly what you're saying. I agree with you

:nono IMO, The only thing Judah lack's in his arsenal are the intangibles
which can't be taught. Heart, Chin & Will.

    Yoel Judah did his thing.

I definitely think Zab would have been p4p one of the best today if he had a better corner, but also a more secure background. It seems the people around him are more about flash. Definitely if Maywhether senior had trained Zab his influences would be more about discipline. Though Jr. doesn't want to admit it, Sr. definitely gave him that discipline to work-out on his own.

What jumps out at me most is when Judah isn't doing too well, (well, according to Judah's standards but to anyone else's standards, he isn't doing that bad but he just thinks he's doing really bad), he would go to the corner and look at his dad for advice like a kid listening intently to the most important thing he's about to hear and all his dad tells him to do is to let his hands go and throw combinations in a loud, obnixious manner. That's when a calm and collected trainer should actually calm his fighter down and tell him specific things to do and encourage him. I think Judah is weak mentally and he NEEDED that type of calming, supporting figure and not just a drill seargent type just screaming at him to throw punches.

Bingo. He could have Ray Arcel, Eddie Futch AND Angelo Dundee in his corner, and it STILL wouldn't make him any less of a front-running punk.

I think a different trainer could have helped, but it depends on allot of different factors. To many variables to go into, and too many we here don't really know.

  13. Yoel has got to be the worst trainer of all time :patsch all he does in-between rounds is scream incoherently at his fighter, that being said the top trainers Roach, Steward probaly wouldn't train Judah because of his Ghetto antics, his lack of respect for authority, and his inability to fight effectively into the later rounds, look every major fight Judah has been in he starts strong but takes a **** down the stretch, you can't teach mental strength either you have it or you don't..

Those are the kind of things I'm talking about. Is Zab too old now or 5 years ago to listen to someone else. Or change his ways. Would the chemistry be right, is Zab living his pop's dream/life over. etc.

You know... I really wonder how much of Zab has left to give. I mean, I am not a particular fan of his... but I wonder where his head and heart are in the sport. Is he just collecting paydays? Or does he have his eye on the prize still? What do you guys think? I wonder if he does look for ways out sometimes.
