you are right. When Hearns hit Hagler. Marvin was expecting it and swinging, all tensed up.. But later rounds a Foster left hook. Who knows.
The thing is always can anyone get knocked out? Probably so. I don't see Jackson doing it to Hagler. Not at middleweight. Hagler had his chin tested by Hearns and Mugabi, and with Mugabi, Hagler was in active for a year and still took the punches well. He had a tremendous chin. Now Foster at lightheavyweight is a whole different story since Marvin is moving up and smaller at that weight. I think Foster could have knocked out or really hurt Hagler.
Jackson hit hard very hard but was only a light middle.if Hearns can't shift him a guy who knocked out LH weight s then JJ fails .without his power Jackson was a very ordinary fighter.
I agree. Sometimes I think his limitations is what caught guys off guard. He would be easy to hit and would be losing, and then come up with a punch out of the blue at times.
I think the key thing is the difference between "could" and "would". Jackson was a huge hitter at 160 as well. He was just a freakish puncher. Hagler had one of the greatest chins ever, but him never getting stopped (or even legitimately dropped) was also about his overall ability. He had a solid defense, terrific stamina, just great all-around. Hearns hit Hagler with some hard shots but not with the distance he preferred. The shot that stunned Hagler was a short inside uppercut and then a looping overhand. Hagler fought a perfect fight, as not only was Hearns extremely difficult to box with at long range, he also was most deadly with his right hand when he got some distance behind it and got full leverage (Duran, Cuevas, Shuler). Hagler turned into a bull against Hearns, I thought it was one of the greatest displays ever of a fighter effectively changing from his normal style. Theoretically, could Jackson stop Hagler if he landed a perfectly timed shot that Hagler doesn't see coming, and walks into? I think it's highly possible, even probable, despite Hagler's amazing chin. But if they fought prime for prime? Hagler most likely outboxes Jackson and then stops him in a few rounds.
No, Hagler had one of the greatest chins of all-time, and Julian Jackson wouldn't do him in. I feel if Mike McCallum could take Jackson's best, than so could Marvin easily.
I really like this post for the varied food for thought it supplies.but as solid as he was, kalambays chin, indeed kalambay himself was an enigma. He could box very smoothly with fast mobility and make himself scarce.A master of feints.ordinarily a superb defensive fighter....but nunn took him out with one shot ...graham had him on the floor twice and he visited the canvas probably too much to be cobsidered iron chinned
