Could Khan not find anyone else, other than a shot Casamayor?

First of all, I guess we should welcome Khan's enthusiasm in getting back in the ring so quick, and giving the fans another fight to look forward to. It would have been reasonable for him to have gone home, and come back late in November/December. Instead, he’s chosen to lace the gloves again in what will be less than two months after his last fight. So yep, this approach should commended.

However in doing so, could he not have gone that little extra and chose a worthwhile opponent? Just what the heck will a shot Casamayor do to help his progress, and enhance his reputation? Yes it’s unfortunate that Katsidis’ team refused to get in the ring with him, but surely there are other credible 140 pounders that would prove useful for a tune up (Cayo, Torres, Urango etc), guys who will provide a good assessment as to how he’ll cope with his predestined foe, Maidana. Because other than being a good name and an ideal person to hype up as a legit challenge, I don’t see how a Casamayor is a good opponent. There’s just not enough left in him to deal with a young and powerful Khan; thus doing very little in telling us if he’s ready for the top dogs of the division.

    Or am I missing something?

clearly you see what Khan and his management are doing here? Right? Khan is the most protected and coddled fighter in the World today. He literally has no Chin. Perhaps the worst Glass Jaw I have ever seen on a 'rated' fighter in my 25 years of watching the sport.

The chin arguement doesn't really hold true here Spadafora. It's known they were chasing Katsidis (a solid puncher) for the July date, but unfortunately failing to entice him in. I don't understand why they now are settling for Casamayor.

Still a dangerous fight for Kahn, Casa is a very good counter puncher. I think he will give Kahn problems in the late rounds.

i wanted to see him against kats, but this is still a competative fight and i think the khan camp see it as a tune up for the big three later in the year, like you mention im not complaining i'd rather see this fight than not see any

    Why?

Another training camp will improve his game
    He'll get another payday
    It's better than being unactive

In conclusion, you're the joke :deal

And why don't you say that to Alexander or Bradley then? They're really fighting 'The best' in their next fights aren't they'? :patsch

An over the hill Casamayore knocked out Katsidis including two knock downs in round 1. An over the hill Casamayor faught 11 comptetive rounds with Juan Manuel Marquez. An over the hill Casa might shock the world. But he is moving up in weight, Then again Kahn has a glass jaw. Its a bit intersting i guess.

Another fight where Khan's chin most likely won't be tested, and Khan is fighting yet another washed up fighter. Holy ****, is Erik Morales next? May'be Khan can fight Jason Cook he's getting up there in age, and that would be a HUGE fight in the UK.

yeah you see khan, while hes a champion, is still very much new to this level of professional boxing so hes still on a learning curve. The fighters hes fought have been pretty much certain wins for him, but hes learning from them... barrera, malignaggi, kotelnik and now casamayor... I think its not a case of fighting all the top guys for amir khan right now. its more a case of ''fight these over the hill world class, ex-champions and get some experience''.

Khan should call out Prescott instead of an injured Maidana and Casama-old.

I suppose I can see how Casamayor's experience and counter-punching ability will test Khan. But considering how inactive he's been at his age, I don't see him being competitive enough. If it was the Casamayor who just lost to JMM, then yes I think it would make for a legit contest. But not now, I see this being more disappointing than the Barrera fight
