Could Kovalev go .500 against these 12 LHWs of Classic Past?

Well, if he struggled to handle body shots from Andre Ward, there are fighters on that list who would decimate him.
I don't think he beats any of them.

 

Never seen so many ppl turn on a fighter so fast. For the record and 100th time I felt he defeated Ward in the first fight. So he lost his last fight and looks to be old for his actual age. I was very disappointed in his reaction in his last fight in hindsight perhaps I should of listened to all those negative camp stories. We'll see if he rebounds I actually think he may not but right now I'm wait and see.
To answer the question the easy answer is to say no coming off a bad loss that is some line up of fighters up there.

 

Would depend if he can hit some of them, he still has a good punch. Jones would go down if hit by Kovalev.

The thing is that Sergey lost one or two fights (depending on ones thoughts on the first fight) against the current P4P #1, no disgrace there.

Another question would be how Ward goes against those 12.

 

I find it amusing that some were calling him an ATG on the basis of beating Jean Pascal and a 50 year old B Hop and postulating that he might beat some of the great smaller heavies!

Now he's been stopped by an average hitting, albeit clever boxer his fall from grace is precipitous. He just throws long punches, hasn't a clue about fighting inside carries his head up like lamp post and is a good " on top "fighter he likes to bully his man,to boss the fight ,but when that doesn't work he quickly runs out of ideas.I wouldn' t pick him individually against any of those listed, but he might win a couple if they are off their game.
The moral of this story is wait and see before lauding the "next best thing" as an ATG, let him amass a body of work on which he can be objectively judged.How does he handle swarmers, punchers, hit and hop it boxers? Can he gut it out when he is in trouble?
Personally I like to reserve judgement on a fighter until he has hung up his gloves.
If GGG loses badly to Alvarez next week the same extreme revisionism will befall his reputation,"he never beat a real top guy","his power was overated," etc.
I've never understood the race to proclaim someone a great fighter while they are still active,what's the hurry?

I agree it seems like Kovalev a few months ago and now Chocolatito. and maybe whoever loses next weekend. We want to build people up or down because of loses. I remember Donald Curry in 1985 was said to be great after knocking out McCrory. Yet two years later after losing to Honeyghan and McCallum he was seen as flawed and never would be great. And to this day he is not in the Hall of fame.

 

I still think he might lay out Bob Foster.

 

I don't his chin is too high and his defence has never been very good ,Foster nails him at some point.
