Could Kovalev go .500 against these 12 LHWs of Classic Past?

The last punch was low. You can't stop a fight on an illegal punch. I'm not saying the foul was egregious enough to warrant a DQ win to Kovalev. But a point deduction and doctor visit was entirely justified. You simply can't just punch a fighter in their nuts like that and then stop the fight.

And there is no excuse for the ref to do that as a professional.

No, as something I haven't seen before. And I haven't seen either of those fights because I prefer fighters closer to their prime. But, yes, Hopkins behavior might have been just as disgraceful. Kova was a disgraceful cheat just like Hopkins. We seem to be in agreement about that. Good.

No you're arguing semantics. You're deflecting right now. What happened was Andre Ward landed an illegal blow and then the referee stopped the fight. That's an egregious and unjustified stoppage.

 

Watch the slow motion closely. Because Kovalev is hunched over the dark part of his trunks is overriding on the white beltline of his trunks. It makes it look like Kovalev is being punched on the area below his belt but he is not. The blow landed on the beltline as a borderline blow.

 

There's a fine distinction between Kovalev and Hopkin's reactions. Kovalev didn't collapse on the floor and roll around, refusing to get up.
