Ward did nothing dirtier than Kova's rabbit punches. Pick any McCallum fight and you have more low blows. It wasn't even a summer breeze compared to what Chuvalo laid on Ali, and Ali never once whined. And so on, and so on.

Anyone comparing this fight to Bowe-Golota is delusional.

Anyone who doesn't think that the first time Kova doubled over (from an effing arm punch with no force, in a clinch) was a sign of him looking for a way out is delusional.

He folded. Plain and simple. But until he did, he was a very dangerous fighter.

Punches ON THE BELTLINE are fair blows. Whomever stated punches on the beltline are low really need another sport to follow. Indeed the beltline historically is defined as an imaginary line that connects the hip bones. Kovalev HIMSELF stated after the fight the final hook to the body was BORDERLINE. During the bout Kovalev was crumbling from relatively light hooks to the body. Hate to see what would happen if a Foster or Moore landed their hook to his body.

Finally none of those blows hit Kovalevs balls. You guys know where your balls are don't you???????

Even though their fights were competitive, Ward is on a higher level than Kovalev. Ward hasn't lost in 20 years.

 

I'd agree with that but that list has killers on it, Ward ain't a killer

 

Ward wouldn't be worse than a mild underdog against any of them and I think highly of some of the guys on the list. Ward knows boxing inside and out and has an extremely competitive mentality.

Kovalev is shakier.

 

I don't see him beating Foster Roy or Spinks. Qawi is 50/50

 

I wouldn't favor either Kovalev or Ward to find 6 wins there, but theres a mountain of difference between would and could.

Unfortunately for Andre in this hypothetical, this thread is a catch 22. It has primarily been about Kovalevs weaknesses, and Andre didn't have an easy time of an old Kovalev at all (1-1 on my cards). That's all Andre has at 175 besides Sullivan, who is a solid contender but nothing more.

Knocking Kovalev here doesn't do anything but knock Ward's chances as well.
