You don't think Muhammad Ali was as durable as Mercer or Holyfield? He was dropped a grand total of once in the decade, in round 15, and immediately got up, looking more embarrassed than hurt. Beyond that, nobody other than Shavers even managed to put a dent him.

I actually think Ali would be a big problem for Lewis due to this. The thing about Lewis was that he was actually a pretty good boxer, in addition to being big, strong, and hard hitting. Against most, that's enough. But against the super durable, the power thing just doesn't matter, so then you're down to boxing skills. And Lewis ain't out-boxing the best of 70's Ali.

Ali never got into the type of wars Mercer and Holyfield did against SHWs nor did he walk through the power punches of those kinds of fighters, wasn't his style so I don't see why he would replicate that kind of style
He could outbox 70s Ali, Ali was suseptible to the jab and wasn't as fast as he was in his prime so would be hard for him to deal with someone like Lewis he could hit him on the outside but also do good work on the inside.

I can see Lyle or Shavers being his "Rahman". But I think he generally dominates. Ali is his toughest opponent. George Foreman is a dangerous, but beatable opponent.

Shavers and Lyle could very well be his McCall and Rahman of the 70s. Though Lewis would avenge the losses in epic fashion
