I would say you are dead wrong!

"McVea was a big, powerful heavyweight who relied more upon his brute strength than slick boxing skills; He was strong, quick and game; Sam fought mostly "name" black fighters during his career "

Because all I said dont count Marciano out he has a shot to win and your disputing that.
I know Rock didn't fight anyone like Holmes but the reverse is also true. Pressure fighters like that are not that common. I don' need to pick apart Holmes resume. No need to but like Rocky he struggled with some fighters you wouldn' expect

No, I'm outlining why I think Holmes should be the clear favourite to win this matchup.
Shavers was a pressure fighter in both the Holmes fights, Norton came forward all night against Larry. So did Cooney.

But he has nothing to do with Johnson or Marciano.

Does being a rated fighter make you punch harder?

The thread is about Holmes and Marciano.Holmes fought and beat Shavers twice. I think you are just looking to argue pointlessly about pedantic nothings ,so I'm out.

Oh, I didn't know we were pitting a geriatric version of Holmes against the Rock. Maybe that's fair and humane cuz a prime version busts him up and thoroughly outclasses him.

Nothing like the way Marciano brought it. Maybe swarmer is a better description. His work rate, body attack, and conditioning along with that power was a winning formula. Like Freddie Brown said "this ain't like football because Rocky never gives you the ball "
    Anyway I think it's a good fight

I do love how only this little (and oddly white) runt has the magical stuff of grit and determination and gumption and sticktoitiveness that no other champ thought to possess, that he was able to corner the historical market on, a once in an aeon talent, practically inhuman and not of this world.

You said that since Shavers knocked Holmes down and Holmes got up to win then Marciano couldn't knock him out. Another reason you said Marciano would lose is because he never fought anyone like Holmes before. You then proceeded to make a post of fighters that you thought would beat Marciano and Johnson was on there. I pointed out that Johnson never beat anyone like prime Marciano. Didn't even fight anyone like prime Marciano.

Do these rules only apply to Marciano? Does only Marciano have to beat fighters like the ones hes matched up against if it is to be plausible that he wins?

I meant Holmes LITERALLY went life and death with Shavers as in he had an encounter with death very briefly.

If I was in Holmes`s corner I would tell him to forget about the jab. He doesn`t need it. Your the Easton Assassian go out there and slug it out toe to toe. Then I would remind him that the boys at ESB say he has 30 lbs Marciano. He probably cant hurt you. What could go wrong? Remember this guy cant carry your jock!

LOL, that would work out well ... :ggg

Holmes should probably be favoured but Marciano has a decent chance is what I'm thinking. Holmes better box from behind the jab or he's not going to look good on the stretcher.
