At the height of what? Did you just write "at the height of Holmes' amateur career" and in some way insinuate this has anything to do with his professional prime? Really?

Not if you frame it that way, but many frame it in the sense that Marciano would lose due to size alone. But you have to keep in mind, Holmes never hit as hard as AJ, so his shots would count less as far as damage is concerned than AJ's would. And Marciano showed he could take punishment from fighters who were around Holmes level of punching power and still keep coming. That plus the fact that he'd be the harder hitter in the ring. So that counts for something. I'll say this, in a toe to toe slugfest, like how Holmes fought Norton, I may favor Rocky.

Dempsey to me, seemed to struggle against an inferior class (save Tunney) of boxer than did Marciano. I think beating Charles is more comparable to beating Holmes than beating Brennan is.

Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. I'd say that it'd have more pull if there were 210+ pound top tier heavies in Marciano's time who he either avoided or lost to whenever he stepped up to fight one. But there wasn't. I mean, does say, Joe Frazier have any winning record against 6'6 250 pound skilled power punchers? And yet many still pick him to beat Anthony Joshua.

Wells was a south -paw the first Holmes had ever fought!

Snipes had a 78" reach ,that is ten inches more than Marciano 's and he was 6'2", 3 and a half inches taller than Rocky ,so of course he found it easier to land his right hand.
Holmes survived Shavers right hand, I think he would survive Rocky's.

I hear that but Shavers sometimes let people off the hook. Rocky didn’t.
    Different classes of finisher.

If a past prime Charles went 15 rds with Marciano,a punchless Lastarza went the 10rd distance and 11 rounds in the return,a fat Cockell went 9 rds a 38/40 years old Moore went 9 rds ,and a 38 years old Walcott went 13rds
A prime Holmes, who was better than all of them should do better imo.

Kinda like saying if a long forgotten 46% KO percentage Renaldo Snipes can KD Holmes, Rocky, who has probably the best KO % of all elite HW punchers, should be able to seal the deal.

These kinds of comparisons are a bit shallow for my liking, because every fight and every matchup is unique. I prefer a more holistic approach to predicting matchups.

When talking about Marciano’s unsurpassed power and finishing abilities, you’re supposed to ignore the hundreds of punches that he landed on his opponents in earlier rounds and just focus on the knockout gifs. You’re doing this wrong.

When being an ignorant Rocky hater, you’re supposed to ignore that every single puncher in history has had fights where they landed many blows that didn’t KO the opponent.

Something has to keep this Rocky hater circus going, and it ain’t gonna be logic or intelligence.

What you must take into account is, that is my rebuttal to Bummy saying 5'10" southpaw Nick Wells stopped Holmes twice in the amateurs,
fights for which he was 210lbs ,or 25lbs more than Rocky usually weighed. I didn't make the rule set he did, and I'm merely operating within his criteria.
You yourself are guilty of the shallowness that you are accusing me of when you mention Snipes' ko%.
Plenty of great punchers have low ko% 's,check out Ike Williams .

    I got you.

Edit: As for your edit, that was exactly the point I was demonstrating.

Here is a prime ferocious Mike Tyson punching a 207lb guy for 30 minutes and not knocking him out:

What is the value of criticizing a subject for doing something that his peers usually did more often than him?
This is the extent of our grasp on this subject?

The points being made here, such as that Rocky must be overhyped because each punch didn't crush bone, have the same kind of logic you would hear from two teenage kids arguing Batman vs. Superman.
