Your argument hangs on the jab, not the right hand.

Without wishing to rehash the old debates, it seems that Louis's right was impaired, and that his jab was winning him the fights.
I think that you know my opinion on KO% by now!
You are arguing that Holmes hit harder than Layne, simply because he managed to stop better fighters.

How sympathetic do you expect me to be to that argument?

Flip the situation round, and imagine it deployed against you!
This is coming from a man who tries to characterize Marciano supporters ans being a wild eyed cult!

I accept that Holmes was a great fighter, but he does not have the sort of physical advantages that you are claiming.

He is a 210lb heavyweigth, who was a dangerous puncher, but not a dynamite puncher.

Marciano's power, is a major physical advantage over Holmes to be honest!

I do not. In fact, he fought nobodys and pumped up middleweights anyway. Beyound that, his whole resume isn´t filled to the top with modern sized Heavyweights either. As Shannon Briggs said once in an interview, as he was asked about fighting Walcott: "Man, these were different men back then!", instead of grounding that nostalgic illusion with: "Do you want me, a solid 235lb guy, fight a 190lb Cruiser!?!?"

The question regards power and you just admitted to losing this portion of the argument. i applaud you for your discretion.

I could care less what you think on this one. Be happy I didn't include the records of their opponents to provide exactly who they were KO'ing.

More effectively tho newbies like to discuss harder. Holmes was simply a better KO artist.

Marciano was a fine attrition puncher. He was an overachiever walking a tightrope with every major fight, a guy who rose to the top off a padded, regional record and stayed around for a short stay against uniformly decrepit and underqualified opposition. In contrast, Holmes' first career was twice the length of Marciano's, his whole career something like 4x. We shouldn't reward a game of "Capture the Flag" with more than it deserves which is a reward for opportunism.

Is this the same Holmes who tired against lhw Spinks? Also regarding heart, Did Holmes ever fight with his nose split to the bone? Didn't think so. That said, I still pick Holmes.

He also thinks Holmes has more stamina and heart than Marciano. I wouldn't take him to seriously.

On stamina did Marciano ever fight 15rds with a 6'3" 212lbs young class heavyweight the average age of his challengers was 36 years old! Only one of his challengers was over 200lbs and he was a 5'10" fat man.
Holmes has as much heart as any man who held the title!

Is this the same Marciano who was knocked down by a 38/40 years old lhw ?
Is this the same Marciano who had his nose split in half by a 33 years old middleweight?
Holmes went 15 rds with a torn bicep muscle.
Holmes got up and won against possibly the hardest puncher the ring has ever seen.
N.B. Holmes was 36 when he lost a very close decision to Spinks ,who at 6'2.5"was taller than any challenger he faced ,and heavier too.
    Marciano retired at 32!
Want to speculate what his record would have looked like had he fought on as long as Holmes? This is Rocky the morning after beating
    a 37 years old Louis.

Marciano, is, as far as i am aware, the only boxer whose ranking and place in history has as much to do with his ethnicity & religion as it does with his career record.
Sorry if that offends some but it is the truth.

Marciano only went 15 once. Holmes did it SIX TIMES. Holmes is the more proven in the stamina department.

This "heart" you folks speak so fondly of must have something to do with being white so far as I can tell. In that case, perhaps Marciano has Holmes here. As far as balls" which I understand to be universal, I put no one above Holmes and only Ali and Johnson on par. But then I am sure all three lacked heart compared to Marciano.

As far as I can tell, Marciano, Holmes and thousands of other boxers all have the same amount of heart.

Why can’t I? Tons and tons of boxers have heart. “Heart” doesn’t separate the great fighters from the lesser ones—skills and physical talent do. The idea that guys like Marciano have so more heart than everyone else just seems mostly like hero worship and folklore to me. And it’s no coincidence that Marciano gets credit for having so many...intangibles. Just my opinion.

I'm no fan of Marciano but his heart is not in question. I know you dislike him surely you can admit it?

I don’t dislike any boxers. And with a handful of exceptions, I wouldn’t question any boxer’s heart. What did I write that makes you think I question Marciano’s heart?
