You accuse Marciano of fighting "unqualified" opposition.

Why don't we compare the rankings of Marciano's title challengers, to the rankings of Holmes's title challengers.

I guarantee that such a comparison would not be very flattering to Holmes.

If you are going to bash Marciano's opposition, and his results against them, it is only fair to point out the rot in Holmes's resume.

Marciano's challengers were basically the most qualified available, they were beaten conclusively, and given rematches when it was warranted.

Holmes's challengers were not the most qualified available for the most part, were occasionally beaten by controversial decision, and were never given rematches when it was warranted.

 

I would throw the same charge at his critics to be honest.

A lot of people cant get over the fact that the only undefeated heavyweight champion, was a 190lb white pressure fighter.

A lot of people don't like this fact, and for others he simply doesn't match their concept of what a great fighter should look like.

Interesting that Ali didnt share Holmes disregard for Marciano`s ability. "He`s better than Joe Frazier" Ali wasnt shy about blasting some of the other old champions black or white.

 

I’m almost convinced that the anti-white sentiment is attached to Marcianos legacy as strongly, if not stronger than the pro-white sentiments.

Any person who operates in the tropes of race when analyzing Rocky as a fighter is an idiot neanderthal.

 

I personally rate Marciano as the number 1 heavyweight of all time specifically because he was a practicing Roman Catholic.

 

They say that the only people obsessed with food, are the morbidly obese and anorexics!

 

Why was he only practicing? You either do it for real or don’t do it at all.

I think most of those people have good intentions
But tie Marciano to the "Great White Hope" tropes due to unsophisticated pattern recognition. They come from the "Coming to America" and "White Men Can't Jump" era.
