Mathis flattened chuck Wepner. He had power alright. Neither Foreman or Liston managed this.

No. I am absolutely not saying that at all. And you know it!
I specifically specified that 213lb is physically harder to push around than 196lb from an opponents point of view.

And isn’t this the sort of thing, size advantage, the single factor you believe to be the most important thing?

He revived this thread to dump on Foreman and trumpet Marciano yet again.Predictable and infinitely boring.
ps Wepner was stopped on a tko in the 3rd Mathis dropped him in the 1st.
Wepner was also dropped by Sonny Liston and Horst Geisler.

An old Liston dropped Wepner in the 9th rd ,Mathis didn't flatten Wepner he floored him in the 1st rd,the fight was stopped in the 3rd with Wepner on his feet.More misleading spin!Take another 3 weeks off.

So Mathis was a powderpuff puncher?

The film of his knockIng down Wepner shows buster hit like a mule.

Total rubbish! Mathis stopped a collection of third rate set ups and never beat a class man inside the distance.
He was an average puncher nothing more ,and you spinning your tales won't change that!

Damn its tough sitting through a Chuck Wepner clip. Watching him "try" to box is bad feeling. I get the same feeling listening to Barry Bonds try to hold a conversation. You just wanna be somewhere else.

Mathis heavily floored a live, respected opponent in the first round who is known for his durability and staying power. Chuck has an almost legendary status for his toughness. Did you see the knockdown?

Mathis was no powderpuff. He was a big super heavyweight with skill. Since he fits that label, How do we know Buster might not have dominated in modern times?

All things being otherwise equal (which they never are). I would much rather have to push around 213 old, less reactive, less balanced weight than 196 pounds of trip hammer reflex steel.
I you are going to tell me what I believe, please at least use a quote to back it. Otherwise, just shut up about what I believe.

    Three things:

    1) Amazing how many rabbit punches Wepner threw. It seems like his only effective punch and he used it repeatedly on Ali. The ref here did warn him several times about those illegal punches.
    2) Wepner threw arm punches only. Absolutely no power at all in them.
    3) The first round knockdown was legit; wasn't a slip.

I’m not telling you what you believe. I am asking, “isn’t size the most important factor to you?”

Either it is the important factor to you or it isn’t. This is a yes or no request. Perhaps you have changed your mind? Who knows? I’m not telling you anything.

Yes it was a beautiful overhand right catching chuck on the chin after his head rebounded upwards from the effects from a slashing left uppercut. Wepner did very well to get up.
