Lets take the first item on your list.

Would you say that Ali over performed relative to his ability and physical attributes, and that Frazier under performed relative to his ability and physical attributes.

Would you say that Ali over performed relative to his results vs the rest of the field, and that Frazier under performed relative to his results vs the rest of the field.

You would have to believe the above to be the case, to conclude that Ali had the stylistic advantage here.

It seems the obvious conclusion to me that Frazier over performed, and that Ali under performed, and that this was mainly down to the stylistic dynamic.

We see the same trend across the other examples, where it is a legitimate boxer vs swarmer match up, which many of your examples are not.

I would say that Marvin Hart was a much better example of a swarmer who Johnson fought.

McVea was more a boxer puncher.

Doubtful Holmes would make the "Jockstrap comment" to the Rock.....face to face.
Holmes: "Man I should have never said that...as he picks himself up of the canvas".
As Tyson said post Holmes fight re: a defect in Holmes' style: "Now he is going to get it"(via The Rock).

Holmes was and is afraid of no man. His mean streak and pure bad@as mentality is 90% why he is a top 5 ATG Heavy. If you think he would cower and contain himself around anyone you just don't know much about the guy. He will find the nearest Buick and jump from the roof to stomp a hole in some fools @as.

As Janitor already explained getting up from 1 punch is quite different than trying to 1recover when a pressure fighter like Marciano is in your face 3 minutes a round. Holmes does have good recovery but he also fell asleep and got himself into trouble probably more the a boxer with his tools should've. Am I saying Marciano definitley wins? No but Im give him chance. It' no mismatch. Certainly Holmes jab is factor Maybe the deciding one but 15 rounds is a long time with a guy that relentless. He brought power, pressure, and a high work rate. He can hurt Holmes but he doesn't have to KO him necessarily.

The point is Johnson beat a big punching, heavier ,[20lbs more than Marciano ,]class man in McVey and no one knows how many fights Mcvey had before he fought Johnson and he was 20 in their last fight when he was ko'd.

A 38 years old Walcott went into the 13th rds floored him, and was in front when he got stopped.
A 33 years old Charles went 15rds with him.
A 38/40 years old Moore went 9 rds and floored him.
    A fat Cockell went 9rds.
Light punching Lastarza went 11 rds.
A prime Holmes is demonstrably better then any of these.
Thirty seven years old Louis badly marked up Marciano with his jab.
Imagine Homes jab in his face all night.

He took Shavers power and won? Do you think having a title makes you hit harder?

The bad thing is the Rock's Suzy Q with the follow up left hook. (See Rock v Walcott I) with Rock even more motivated from Holmes blowing smoke...as usual.

Wait just a minute. You're completely ignoring the fact that McVea was a green novice when he fought Johnson. I don't care if he was 200 lbs heavier than Marciano. He wasn't even old enough to drink in today's society in the USA. He was still a kid practically! That version of Mcvea doesn't compare at all to prime Marciano.

And he still wasn't the heavyweight champ.

What does Shavers have to do with this? They fought in eras 60-70 years apart.

Does being a rated contender make you hit harder?

Holmes didn't fight any of those midgets, he was taking on modern heavyweights. Not ex light heavies who were past prime.
How old was Tyson when he won the title? How old was Benitez?

Shavers is universally recognized as one of, if not the the hardest puncher ever.
