Anyone who tries to call Marciano "soft" physically is a silly goose. Anyone have the video of Marciano throwing rocks during a training session? The man is built like chiseled stone.

Mongoose, anyone....Marciano is weighing 190ish in that capture right there....tell me do you honestly think he could take off another 20lb? The man looks lean and hard as a rock.

The man didn't look like a bodybuilder, he looked like a powerlifter/athlete. Had nothing but slabs of muscle.

I don't think so ... I see Rocky fighting like Rocky, bombs away and I can see Fitz chopping him up pretty good ... guys that came right at Fitz did not do too well ..

Eh, I've been arguing the entire time he was nothing but lean muscle mass at 185-190.

Direct this to Ncc84, who's trying to say he was flabby at the Moore weigh in.

I know you are Mongoose, and I know you are a big Rocky fan. I misworded it, I was throwing your name in there to vouch for it, because I know you agree with that opinion.

Who came into Marciano and did well? Especially a 165lb man with durability issues. Marciano actually holds a significant weight advantage in this fight, I can only imagine how much effect his power will have on a super middleweight like Fitz.

No, we were talking about rocky at a weigh in, and what he could get down to. So I posted a picture of rocky marciano at a weigh in. I chose the picture that was clearest and least obstructed.
Someone said that modern boxers dont have the dedication to get the same muscle to fat ratio that rocky had. So my pictures show that is simply not true, and the top cruisers and light heavies have much less body fat than rocky.
rocky weighs 188 in the picture i posted and i think it shows he could easily get down to 175 without really having an effect on his performance.

You however, chose the picture you posted because it was the most flattering, i chose the picture that was most relevant to the conversation

I'm not saying he was flabby, far from it. Just the top cruisers and light heavies now are a lot more trim than he was. There was room for him to cut weight. If he lost just 5-8lbs then with dehydration for a weigh in, he could easily make 175 then rehydrate back up to over 180.
Look at chad dawson at a weigh in, then look at him in a fight you can see he is a lot heavier in the fight.
he is about the same weight as marciano was, but chad has more muscle and less fat than rocky

His muscles were molded different so the "look" of his muscles may be a bit deceiving. His muscles were molded for ENDURANCE and Power. To many fighters today rely on the reverse. To me, I like the "smooth" muscle look for a boxer that wants better endurance and to be more "fluid" in movement. I'm not saying it's not possible to look rock solid/ripped and have that same ability (since there are genetic factors that will always make a person look a certain way no matter what training he does) but I wouldn't necessarily recommend specifically molding your body to look like another athlete since I tend to see the smooth approach is far more apparent in great boxers with great endurance, fluidity, and lasting Power (if they are fortunate enough to have that attribute). And that was key as well for Marciano...that lasting Power in the late rounds.

But there are a lot factors in how a fighter looks...specifically the genetic makeup. But some try to mold their body's a specific way instead of letting their body mold itself based on the objectives it needs to do to work as a united machine for "boxing."

Marciano's body didn't look "ripped" when relaxed. It didn't have to. Many animals in the wild don't looked "ripped" when relaxed. But when they see their prey, like a Mountain Lion, you see the muscles rip when in motion for the hunt.

That said...a more modern approach like Alex Ariza has been noted for with how he trains his fighters, the nutrition program he puts on them, and how can manipulate weight for the scales would be interesting to see.
The training program he could put on to train for explosive speed and agility in the lower body would be interesting to see.

    I agree.
The guy fought at 181 - 184 pounds in some of his prime fights.
He could have made 175 if he'd had set his mind to it.
