It's not easy to tell how much body fat these guys are carrying.
Some guys get down really low and still don't show the same veins and definition as others guys, it's just the way they are, they just don't have that vascularity. Rocky was often described as being hard as a rock all over.
I agree, Marciano could make 175 though, but not because I know how much spare fat he has.

I do agree that he was in great shape, at no point have I disputed that, however, someone said today's boxers all carry more fat than rocky, but you can look at photo's and see that just isnt true.

I dont see how anyone can say a boxer who had a ring weight as low as 178 at times could not have boxed at 175.

Isn't an underlined point of the question if he could fight effectively at this weight ? Yeah I'm sure Marciano could starve himself down to light heavy but he would not be as strong or good. If he was sick with a flu for two weeks he might weigh 175 but that does not mean he should fight there .. I always felt he trained down to the mid or higher 180's because there was his best effective weight ... he was a very smart guy , knew what he was doing and did it for a reason ...

It's not like we're crticizing Rocky Marciano in this thread. We're just making assumptions that whether he can cut down to the light-heavyweight limit. That's all.

todays weigh inns are 36 hours before fight time.in the old days it was 10 hours before fight time..yes if he fought today he would be at 175 with ease.comments about him being over 200 walking around weight is not correct.trim guys of today.lets see donaire at 118 weighted 134 fight night.alvarez at 154 weights 168 fight night.chavez at 160 weights 180 fight night.gamboa at 126 weighed 138 fight night.rios at 135 weighred 150 fight night.victor ortiz at 147 weighed 161 fight night.all of these guys are much smaller then rocky yet well beyound the ten pounds from 185 to 175.
today with the extra time they mastered the art of dehydration.that would take nothing away from rocky.his endurance stanima power would be the same.im an advacat of same day weigh inns.lets stop the nonsence of saying donaires a bantham for example when hes a lighweight..so yes if marciano fought today it would be at 175 with ease.thats legalized murder..no he would not be 175 in his day.theres a major differnce today in weight manipulation done where it doesnt in general effect performance.the real question should be can any of todays fighters mentioned above make the weight class that there fighting in with same day weigh inns.the anser is no.
it makes you appreciated the fighter of the past and how great they realy are.could any light heavy or 168 pounder today hang with rocky and fight night most of them would weigh the same and several would be heavier.could donaire hang with duran or beau jack at his real weight which is 134..could rios at 150 hang with hearns leanord basilio gaviln..thats comparing apples too apples.bring back same day weight inns for real fighters and 15 round fights.please.

It would only make sense that he would be 200+

He trained down to 185 lbs. 15+ pounds when not training is rather normal for fighters to gain when not fighting/training. The extra fat can be stripped off anyway when you go back into training. Didn't he have long training camps?

How much over 200 pounds was he during his active career. He wasn't like Duran was he (with how much he packed on between fights)?

..i had 3 talks with rocky after he retired.i asked him a similar question .what was your walking around weight.he said usualy about 10 pounds over my fighting weight.thats usualy then 189-197.he did weigh as low as 177 and a few onces and the most one fight 192 before he was champ.i asked basilio the same question he said within 8 pounds of his fighting weight.basilio laughed also saying we all cant be as lucky as robinson whos always at fight weight.

Besides weight-training, any contribution of long distance running training being somewhat eroded in modern training for alternate forms of conditioning? Longer running can take some size out of your thighs. That could be one of the reasons.
