No, Patterson will have gained some weight too, depending. Presuming he's not training etc.

After this thread, fantasy fights will never be the same again.

I get that, but also people should be looking over size if they take that kind of thing seriously anyway. I mean if Hopkins is 6'2 and Tony Zale is 5'7, that's a major clue to a size advantage as it is.

I do have to ask though, given that you're whole detailed rankings system is based on head to head, hasn't this put all your stuff in a bit of bother?

Just looked it up again because I can remember Froch being 175 lbs before the 2nd Groves camp 10 weeks before the fight.

Couldn't find the source of it anymore but.

"I am bang on 6ft and walk around at 13 Stone. So for me to do 12 Stone 7 or 175 Pounds I mean I could do that tomorrow and I have not trained for 2-3 months. I could wake up tomorrow, watch what I eat and go for a run and I would weigh 12 1/2 Stone. So for me to fight at Light Heavyweight I am giving away all my advantages such as strength and toughness, because the guy in front of me is going to be bigger and stronger than me."

    182 pounds walk around.

    And

"Catch weight is possible because I am getting older. The weight is coming on slightly, more than when I was in my Twenties. I mean I used to walk around at 12 Stone"

"Naturally I’m about 13 and a half stone, but for a fight I need to be just under 12. You can be as fit as you like, and look in amazing shape, but boxing is a weight-governed sport. To achieve this you need to do all the training so your body burns the muscle, but also avoid sugar, fat, eating late – basically anything that might contribute to your body mass. I’m half Polish, so I’ve got a fast metabolism, but it’s still so hard to make that deadline before a fight."

Maybe "naturally" is a little different from walk around. But probably what it is is he uses whatever weight he broke himself down from most recently when he's talking about this. 180-190 depending.

Not sure about that Polish shout.

Are there actually fight night weights for pre 24 hour weigh in fighters?

I really wonder what Carlos Monzon weighed in the ring.
Or Lamotta later in his career.

If we know the limits of how much those fighters could drain then it's easier to compare the size of fighters in the lower weightclasses through the 2 different weigh in eras.

Well I have an easy get out clause in that my rankings would be with a 24 hour weigh in to avoid massive size advantage on the night.

Chavez Jr vs Joe Louis, an all time favourite of mine.

absolutely not, no way. Had he not died in that plane crash he'd be much to old to box at any weight

Pre IV ban 20lbs was very doable, now 10lbs is very common this is not to say that is healthy especially over the long term. Rocky was the legendarily disciplined and driven. 168 would not pose a problem.

You'd think their metabolism would have slowed due to WW2......

I think today we should just scrap the weight divisions, size is nothing in modern times......

Choclab, the question is could Marciano make 168lb with modern gloves or would it only be possible with smaller gloves.....

Would never occur. Marciano trained down from a much heavier walking around weight. At 168 he would be emaciated and not at anywhere near a healthy body weight to compete in a ALL body sport like boxing.
