Not against Spinks or Qawi he didn't. They would have tore the Sugary one a new ass. The catchweight was also 168 from memory, hardly fair on a natural LH like Lalonde. I'd also hardly say Hagler monstered Leonard at all, part of his problem was that he didn't even try to.

Mate, didn't take it as a knock, but it's not actually correct.

I'm just not as in awe of Hagler as many are. Top 5 160 ever both in achievments and H2H, but many seem to put him straight into number 1 and i think there's a bit of competition there, especially H2H. Haglers far from the smartest in there, as seen at various junctions of his career and i believe he struggles vs some of the greats. Guys like Jones, Monzon and Hopkins could well present puzzles he never seems to solve. He'd be much harder in rematches tho. GREAT pressure fighters of the likes of Greb and Walker would be interesting too going by the competitiveness of a much less dangerous Antuofermo.

You make a fair assessment. I've always thought Hopkins would have edged out Hagler over the distance. Why? Basically his cute strategy, quickness, superb defense, durability, and overall ring generalship. Hagler's no slouch in most of those categorys, but he prefered fighters who were aggressive. Hagler more or less chewed up opponents who took the fight to him. Hopkins brings a different approach to the table than fighters like Minter, Hearns, and Mugabi. I would go as far to say that Hopkins is better defensively than anyone Hagler fought, although Leonard fans might argue that. Hopkins had something Leonard and Duran never. The physical strength and skills to cope with Hagler inside.

Agreed mate, tho the defensive line between Duran and Hopkins would be fine. Keep up the good work.

Not at middleweight. Hopkins was far better defensively at middleweight than Duran. Mainly because he was more athletic, quicker, and showed better reflexes. Variety. While Duran's defense was very good against Hagler, he never had to deal with rushes of attacks. Not on a regular basis anyway. Only during the last couple of rounds did Hagler give Duran something serious to think about. Hopkins would have tamed an all out aggressive Hagler better than Duran would have done.

But looking at their careers as a whole, yes I agree. It's a fine line.

Who exactly did Lyle ko?Apart from a 30 year old Shavers ,who didnt have the best of chins and had been stopped by,among others,Ron Stander,I agree with Mannassa,Lyle ,likely stops Hagler after a couple of kd,s,but I think Lyles power is a bit overated.

No way is Marv lasting the distance. Mid-rounds at best.
