It's the same as in the Marciano thread about the same subject. Fighters today do generally drain substantial amount of water weight. Spence is i160 in the ring, which probably is a couple of pounds less than Hagler was, may. I haven't seen in the ring weights for Thurman and Porter, but they're both massive and seem to be a bit bigger than Spence, at least Thurman. Crawford is a bit smaller, but probably not below 160, not much anyway. Even Mikey Garcia is at least 155 in the ring I think. So Hagler would probably be pretty medium sized for a WW today. Maybe a bit bigger than the average WW and a bit smaller than the average SMW.
I think so. Guys like Spence and Crawford can cut down close to 20lbs, I don't think it's too far fetched to think Hagler could cut 15.
Yes why not. But we do not need more threads confirming the obvious. What would be useful is if you created one where you pointed out that for decades now the divisions are not the same as what they were, what the average difference in real in ring weight is (It used to be marginally heavier, now it is you believe what percentage on average?)... Then match people like Hagler FAIRLY & realistically. However great he was, if he would be an average WW today, then he must suffer in comparison to modern day MWs. So the only fair & rational thing to do it match him against modern day WWs. And consider how great peak SRR (WW of course)would be against those at 135! Many insist that modern is better. Sometimes it is. Could Duran be beaten by anyone today in any of the divisions he would have fought at? But the old timers may even go up in estimation if you match them as they should be.
Even guys like Williams, Margarito and Clottey squeezed into ww. I remember seeing that Clottey's in ring weight was 169 lbs for one fight.
Depends on how much weight Hagler needed to lost to get to 160 pounds. Yeah, he could do it, the question is why would he?
That fight took place at a catch-weight. Margarito weighed in at 150 and apparently was 165 in the ring: https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Manny_Pacquiao_vs._Antonio_Margarito That was actually a bit smaller than I thought.
