Could Mayorga beat Cotto?

    Although this fight isn't a certainty yet, if it takes place, does Mayorga have what it takes to cause the upset?

    I rate Cotto as the superior boxer, but he's not as slick as either De La Hoya or Cory Spinks, and I dont think he's skilful enough to totally outbox Mayorga.

    I also think that Mayorga's power is brutal at 147lbs and that he is hard-hitting enough to stop just about anyone at the weight. Also, Mayorga's chin is granite and I dont think Cotto will be likely to knock him out.

    Could Cotto get dragged into a brawl and taken out late by Mayorga?

    I'm pretty certain whatever the outcome, this will be a classic fight.

    Nope, Mayorga won't handle Cotto's left hook to the body. Cotto TKO late, in a one way fight.

    Absolutely not. Cotto would box Mayorgas ears off and then stop him late.

    Hell no ... Cotto will outclass this dude and eventually knock him out.

    IF Mayorga could make it down to a healthy 147, he would knock Cotto out. I say this because Cotto is very hittable and Mayorga has 1-punch KO power.

    if he carries a gun to the fight,then he might have a chance to beat Cotto.

    Cotto can box ... he's compact in his stance ... and keeps his hands up high ...

    Cotto is not hittable ... he will get hit if he elects to brawl with Mayorga but that won't happen ... Cotto knows Mayorga's history and won't make that mistake unless he has him vulnerable.

    Only way Mayorga can hit Cotto and have it be effective is to punch him with one of those wild punches to the back of the head.

    at present in the ring, most likely no.

    mayorga's best chance of beating cotto is in the streets.

    His last fight against Vargas, or "Fatty" as Mayorga called him, was at a catch weight of 164. And he hasn't fought at 147 since 1997. So i think it's safe to say he won't make 147.

    But if they fought at say, 154, i think he has a puncher's chance as he would be the naturally bigger guy.

    **** no. Mayorga would be brutalized by Cotto and knocked out by him.

    *Very interesting information about Mayorga not fighting at 147 since 1997. He won't make 147. By the way, he doesn't have a solid since 2003. I don't count shot Vargas as a solid win.

    This is why there will never be a Cotto-Mayorga fight. Ricky will never weigh 147 again, and Miguel won't move up to 154.

    I hope you're right.

    But I think Hatton would go to 147 for a rematch against Mayweather or a fight against De la Hoya.

    Mayorga's last fight at 147 was in 2003 vs Cory Spinks. But I agree it's doubtful he can make 147 at this point.
