But Pac is a huge draw himself and I've been traveling these past two months and I always bring up boxing, it being my favorite sport and a lot of people who say, "I dont watch boxing but I heard about mayweather and pac"
It won't do over 2 Million buys. With today's media having varied delivery, the days of 1.5+ Million PPV buys for the US are over. If they somehow get agreements for world wide PPV the 2 Million mark could be breached. If the promoters get with today's technology and stop holding on to the PPV they'd cover some of the losses uncured from free streams or private broadcast sharing. I would buy a lot more fights if they'd only put them on pod casts or netflicks of the internet.
Mayweather Ortiz It will get a million views, maybe 2 million. It wont get 4 million. Who the hell is Ortiz? If we are talking Pacquiao I could see it getting 4 million. I know I'll watch the fight.
Over 3millions and maybe 4million, it would be pushed harder than the DLH fight, is more anticipated, is bigger both mainstream and to the hardcore and it would be much more hyped and promoted. 3.5m would be my guess
if both of their last fights sold 1.3M and 1.4M respectively, i think this fight would easily sell 2M. 4M could be pushing it but it has the potential to reach 3M buys.
4 is pushing it... 3 is also pushing it but maybe a bit more achievable. (Obviously depends on what they look like & Of course should they win their next) The "key" ingredient that both these fighter's are missing to put it over is the "Latino" casual fan.
It would depend on the promotion obviously, but also how heavily the national media outlets go with their coverage. It could do 3 million with Espn heavily behind it.
But it's mostly the same people ordering both of their PPV's. It isn't as if Floyd brings his 1 mil buys and Pac brings his. Most of them are the same buyers. The fight is huge... and even as huge as Lewis/Tyson was... it brought in 1.97 mil buys. That's a tremendous amount of buys. Oscar De La Hoya was the biggest draw in the history of the sport. So... he had his automatic buys and was fighting against Mayweather in a much anticipated showdown. It was the first time that they did the 24/7 show and it caught on huge at that time. It has sort of been ran into the ground since then by showing the same guys on it and lost it's luster to the general public. Back when Oscar was fighting Mayweather I heard people talking about that fight that clearly weren't even close to being boxing fans. People loved that first 24/7 show. That is why the fight did such an outrageous number. Floyd and Pac are both superstars. However, they have both done the 24/7 thing repeatedly and it just isn't the same anymore. It won't boost that fight as much as it did Oscar vs Floyd... however it is a HUGE fight that should draw in about the same amount of buys. Wouldn't be surprised to see it do a little less or a little more. However, there are only so many households that you can reach that have any interest in paying for a boxing match. That amount of viewers is absolutely amazing.
I dunno man. Ok mabye 4 mil is farfetched, but I can't believe how popular Pacquaio is sometimes. I never have seen so many old philipino women say "Manny Pacquaio!" anytime I'm over heard talking about boxing in public. PBF is wildly popular as well, maybe as much as Oscar was, he's just more popular with different ethnicities than Oscar imo. I think that this ppv could pull 3 mil easily.
