I don't see why not....people had no problem when Pac did the same thing for his welterweight belt.

That would be the day isn't it. *****s will bow down in shame with all the criticism they threw at Pac.

No problem! Are you ****in' kidding me? Where have you been?

I think he'd take more pride losing at welterweight than aiming for a catchweight victory.

The sanctioning bodies would practically force it to happen even if the fight took place at a catchweight of 154.1, considering that the fight will command a lot of money. That's what happened with Pac-Cotto (initially wasn't a title fight until the WBO stepped in and made it one because the fight was obviously going to generate massive amounts of money).

    Exactly.

Who really believes that SRL was ever a champion at 175 ?

It was bull**** (and stupid, from Pac's point of view) when Pac had Cotto come in at 145.

And it would be just as fabricated if Floyd did it at anything less than 160.

    BTW, I would see Martinez-Pac at 160 as a pick'em fight.

Yeah, 145 is such a freakin catch weight! 147 is the limit...Subtract 145....2 pounds! Omg, I'm such a huge Pac fan, but no wonder he destroyed Cotto. Cotto was drained by 1 pound!

Back on the subject though I don't see anything wrong for fighting Martinez at a catch weight. 154 would be fine. As for the title I'm a little on the fence....Since it's actually the 160 belt. 160-154=6 pounds...Not 2 ;)
Since Martinez was actually a JR MW I'd give him Floyd full credit for the win, and wouldn't mind if he had the belt...So long as he defended it afterwards against an actual MW.

Interesting. I only got into boxing around 5 months ago, so I didn't know there was pre-fight controversy around Pac-Cotto's catchweight battle.

I don't know, I think even if the belts weren't on the line, Martinez's name on May's resume does a lot for him, at 154, 155, or 160. Martinez is coming off two very very strong performances, is naturally bigger, slick, and a southpaw. Like any fighter he has his flaws, but I doubt anyone could criticize Mayweather for taking the fight.

If Pac can't get made, I'd like to see a Mayweather-Martinez fight at one of those above weights for sure.

Dude, Martinez is too big for floyd. It's just not a weightclass he should be in.

Floyd doesn't even max out at WW.

    Be realistic dude.
