"Flush" is the key word there. I think the same could be said of any heavyweight with B-level power. In fact I doubt there's anyone alive who could remain standing after a good shot from a heavy-handed middleweight, if he just had to stand there handcuffed and take the punch with no preparation other than tensing his neck.
Yes McCall would, McCall was a very defensive fighter who was actually pretty boring to watch overall, many times he would shell up and not really come to win. I think Ray Mercer, Pinklon Thomas and David Tua would be able to absorb shots from Wilder too. What about Vitali Klitschko, George Chuvalo and Tex Cobb?
The answer is YES. Two reasons... McColl had one of the best, maybe THE best, chins in the history of the sport. Wilder's power is somewhat overrated.
OK. Suppose Oliver McCall can withstand Wilder’s strongest best shots. At the same time, the most precise. Can he endure that in the case of all other boxers? Does that mean it's impossible for Oliver McCall to be knocked out? If that's the conclusion, it seems frivolous to me. I don't think Oliver McCall himself thinks it's impossible to be knocked out. Or is it just Wilder's best shots?
Of course he could. Wilder is good at knocking out stiffs, that's about it. Against top level fighters with solid chins, he wasn't nearly so fearsome.
Duhaupas took loads of bombs, as well, and arguably didn't deserve to be stopped. He was halted on his feet in the 11th and never hit the canvas.
I think Wilder’s power is a bit overrated - his devil may care deliveries also see him land quite a few dodgy shots which connect behind the ear toward the back of the head - those types of punches can discombobulate and bring undone guys who otherwise possess very decent chins. Ironic that Wilder moaned about Fury landing the very type of illegal punches that Wilder himself is prone to laying on his opposition.
