i dont know why people think cotto has a good chance....

margarito who is slower, shorter, lesser reacher, less accurate, less variety of punches was beating cotto on the cards prior to cotto getting ko'd so even if you bring up the argument of margarito having plaster gloves ... he was still winning on the cards and was up by 3 or 4 roudns if my memory serves me correctly..

paul would just pressure cotto from far and basically re-create the fight that margarito performed on cotto except it would be much more dangerous because cotto is very susceptible to fast punchers... zab-shane & torres all put cotto in danger with their punches from un-usual angles & extreme speed which is an attribute paul also has.... im pretty confident the fight would end with cotto getting ko'd

    judge: Dave Moretti 95-95 |
    judge: Jerry Roth 94-96 |
    judge: Glen Hamada 94-96 ~

these were the score upon the fight being stopped.... subtract one point for the one knock down margarito got on cotto

so if cotto survived the 11th round margarito would have been tied on 1 card and up by 2 rounds on the other cards and he would have winded up winning a decision

you guys are trying to tell me that paul williams couldnt recreate this fight?

if you say no your a damn liar

The only way Cotto beats Williams is if he grows 6 inches taller before fight night. Cotto cant handle the height, jab and workrate Williams offers. And Im a die-hard Cotto fan. Cotto should stay away from WIlliams at all cost, go after Berto, Cintron, Margarito, or Mosley instead.....

its not even about that tho.... cotto & quintana dont have the same style

paul is a taller, longer, faster, more accurate margarito with better punching variety.... if we were talking about a guy who didnt fight like margarito i would agree with you but paul can do exactly what margarito did to cotto except 1000 x better.... and im not even saying that because im a fan... its obvious

Man, WTF, these guys aren't robots, if one of the fighters is ****ing armed, it is going to affect the points gathering abilities of the other one.

Based on Cotto's performance against another big guy (Margarito) who is not nearly as big as PW: NO.

His durability comes to question and he doesn't handle pressure too well. Paul William's workrate and height would present big challenges IMO.

    PWs by stoppage.

Holy ****, are you just, totally convinced that Margarito wasn't wearing hardened plaster in that fight?

It's astonishing to me that people are treating this fight as a fight where they can learn something about Cotto. I used to do it, obviously, but not now.

Williams is still unproven. Against a good boxer or slugger, he will have problems. He leaves himself open to counters and against a guy as good as cotto, cotto will expose this.

Cotto could beat Williams if he stayed very close, but Cotto doesn't have a good sense of strategy. If his new trainer tells him to do that, he can win by nullifying the Punisher's safety distance. Williams loses on the inside, but wins on the outside. It depends on Cotto's footspeed. He needs to do what Frazier did to Ali in their first fight.

One guy who would destroy Paul Williams is Ricardo Mayorga. Watch the Mayorga-Forrest fights. Vernon Forrest is very similar to Paul Williams, and Mayorga comes crashing through with power shots over the top, very difficult to dodge.

Don't you have to assume that Margo had loaded wraps against Williams as well? Williams seemed to do a lot better against Margo than Cotto. And while we're assuming that Margo loaded his gloves in both fights, let's also assume that Cotto doesn't hit as hard as a loaded gloved Margo. How can we expect Cotto to win this fight if a harder pucher was unable to deter Williams with good body work and punishing hooks to the dome?

If Arum thought Cotto had a chance of beating Williams he wouldn't have waited until Paul vacated the WBO before fighting the extremely dangerous Michael Jennings
