i think he could make cruiser easy if he did more running and cut back on what he ate.
look at beranrd hopkins. for years he was a middleweight with a light heavyweight frame.

i am natural 15 stoner myself like mike but i like to walk around at 14 7. i look a lot better in the face. when i am 15 stone plus I have a lean body but fat face mike did in his prime. i know a few people with the same condition. i like to have the square jaw look like stallone and van damne

people are amazed when i tell them my weight. tehy reckon i am taking the ****

Mike in his prime was 215-220 pounds and was pretty solid. If he tried to boil down to 200 he would be taking off muscle mass, which is never good. So my guess is that no, he couldn't make the current cruiserweight limit effectively without killing himself.

I think he would have been VERY drained and ineffective.

No matter how ripped you are, your body is around 60% water. The more you weigh, the more you can cut. Gatti was said to have cut 20lbs. the night he nearly decapitated Joey Gamache. Gerald McClellan was rumored to cut 20lbs. for his middleweight fights. James Toney cut 14-18lbs. the night he faced Roy Jones.

If fighters that much smaller than Tyson could do it, I'd say he could. I just don't think there was enough money to be made in doing so. Tyson was always the draw. If there was a marketable fight to be made against a cruiserweight, I'm willing to bet that cruiserweight would be moving up to face him.

If you mean in the sense that he could make it to the modern two days-before-fight weigh-in at 200lbs, weight drained, but regain those 15-20lbs on fight night, then he may have been able to. Could he have fought at 200lbs (ring weight) without loss of ability? I don't think so.

I personally think Louis' best weight was what he weighed for the second bout with Schmeling, which was 198lbs. That was a great performance by Louis, the best of his career in my view!

As far as Tyson getting down to the Cruiser limit - I do not think he could. His lightest weight when he was champion was 215lbs, being against Holmes. His body fat was low at that weight, he was very stockY. No way could I see Mike getting down to 200lbs. If he would have tried I think Tyson is the type that w ouldsuffer big time from trying to get down to an un-natural weight!

Tyson vs Haye at Cruiser LOL!
