Ali denied giving cooper a 3rd match so we can safely assume he could never beat him in a true way.

Cooper knocked Ali senseless in the first fight but he lost the second fight fairly.

Cooper EVT Ali is one of the most under-looked EVT wins in the history of the sport. The second Ali-Cooper fight was a much less dramatic EVT win, but an EVT win nevertheless. I think, most definitely in the first fight that Cooper proved what Joe Frazier showed that any good left hooker could truly beat Ali in a fair "true" contest. Keywords are "fair" and "true" that's why Cooper was the EVT winner of those fights. It's quite simple. Ali was open to the left hook and Cooper was a dynamite left hooker. The only reason Patterson failed in his match with Ali is because of a bad back (Another Ali EVT loss). The rematch was fruitless because Patterson was shot.

Ali nearly had to cheat his way with the torn glove bit to beat Cooper in their first meeting officially. We know, with all the dignity and honor established in EVT winning in boxing that Ali couldn't cheat Cooper out of his well deserved EVT. All the pre-antics wouldn't suffice an EVT win. Cooper was cut, Cooper took punches to his face fiercely despite such cuts, and Cooper dropped the butterfly. He shut the Louisville Lip up with one of the fiercest left hooks that shook up Ali's ancestors. It's non-negotiable, non-debatable. A clear cut EVT win. Enry' proved his status as a legend.

Terrific thread. I'd say if it wasn't for the cuts that Cooper would've won. And I think Ali knew this, that's why he resorted to such cheap tactics of punching Henry in the face so much that he would bleed a terrible bleed. We will never know for sure, unfortunately. And it's shame, we only really have Ali to blame for it.

I wonder whether he could have emulated Uber Bacilieri, the great Italian heavyweight that somehow -- miraculously -- managed to TKO the great Henry Cooper in the fifth round of their 1955 fight.

Could Ali have summoned something of Bacillieri's magic on that eve? We'll never know. But we know one thing. Muhammad Ali is no Uber Bacillieri. Now way, no how.

Not in the interview I saw. Dundee said he showed the officials how the glove was split, but denied trying to buy time with it. You can believe it or not. But I don't believe Dundee would ever admit buying time for Ali. He said Ali didn't need any time.

It seems most people agree with me that Ali wasn't skilled enough to repeatedly punch his opponent hard in the face without opening a cut. If Ali was a true champion then he would have given Cooper the trilogy fight he clearly deserved.

To tell the truth, I'm fed up with these ridiculous arbitrary boxing rules. How the **** does it make sense that you can win a fight by repeatedly landing hard punches on your opponents face until the ref or doctor decides that they can no longer continue? That is NOT what the sport is about.

It may sound revolutionary, maybe even completely mental, but I propose a rule change! I've had enough if fighters exploiting this loophole in boxing's rules. I say that if a a fighter is cut by his opponent to the point where he can't continue, then he should be declared the EVENT winner. Perhaps this would dissuade fightes from punching their opponents in the face and causing facial damage.

Yes that would make boxing so much better after over a hundred years of queenburys rules .
the great all knowing SHAUNSTER101 has declared that boxers are no longer allowed to puch each other in the face for fear of (heaven forbid) cuttting the other boxer.
You are a ****ing ****** and should be punched in the face instead.:hi::rasta:****:boxx:party
