Would also make a good film. Starting in 1967 when Muhammad got banished from the ring, all the drama leading up to,and during their three fights, and ending after September 30 1975.

Ali didn't seem to have much problem with Angelo Dundee calling him Clay before the Ellis fight.

What? That was news to me. In what circumstance did that happen? I've only heard him refer to Ali as "Muhammed" after the name change and "Cassius" before.

Anyhow, it would always have been the smart prediction that Ali didn't like being called "Clay" after previous rows. Did Angelo want to get him, perhaps? Being in Ellis' corner for that fight as he was.

Or maybe it didn't annoy him as much as he liked to let on, who knows? :hey

Whether it did or not doesn't really matter here, since those who had publically called him Clay (Floyd, Terrell, Bonavena) did so to get at him in some way. It at least seemed obvious that this was a good way to get him riled up.

But hey, at least we got some great music out of it::D

But I'm still curious about in what circumstances Dundee called him Clay, though.

He was just referring to him as Clay during interviews before the Ellis fight, e.g. "Jimmy knows Clay inside out, we're confident of a win", "Clay didn't look good recently" that kind of stuff.

Some would call Ali CLAY around this time out of sheer force of habit. My mum loved Muhammad, but up untill 1974 or so,she'd keep referring to him as Cassius Clay. Obvioulsy Frazier and co would do it to provoke.
