Not by the time they have become a full time MMA fighter.

To be the best at something almost always requires a lifetime of training, especially a sport with as much competition as boxing.

A few fighters who were born with good genetic traits like power, chin, and speed, could maybe have done it if they trained for it most of their life, but there are about a million steps between genetic gifts and serious threat as a boxer.

Me too, Brazilian fighters are bad dudes I must say. Everyone remained so calm. Even the coach getting jumped. He didn't appear to be overly concerned at all. He was like, "OK, I'm being attacked right now, no big deal, just going to choke him out real quick".

MMA guy could if the work him like a boxer that is coming up. As you see, when it comes to a boxer going into MMA they don't get an easy fish. They are put in with a guy that is up in skills. If they did the same with an MMA guy..he would get killed...but if they train him and give him some easy fights..well ya never know. If the UFC didn't want to make Tony look stupid..they wouldv'e gave him a fighter that would stand infront of him and try to bang..So we got this Stupid boxing vs MMA thing again. Boxing is one sport MMA is another sport. Still love to watch both.

your right and I did forget about that.....:bbbBut again that is the match making of dana and the UFC...if they were to put their foot down and say "James you are going to fight this guy or not get paid" ya know James wouldv'e taken it. The money James got wasn't nothing to turn down.

Then Toney would have been bitching the whole time that he didn't get the fight that he wanted. Or even worse, he'd probably say that White was protecting Couture from Toney. Kimbo is going to be boxing now right? Perhaps it's boxing's turn to offer up a freak show of their own? Set up Toney/Kimbo if that's possible.

That may be true...but if Tony fought a Kimbo or someone that would Trade Blows with him...and he won...The PPV the UFC wouldv'e got on a Randy vs Tony Main event woud be huge...and they woudn't need a Co-Main Event..but what do I know.

Because of its restricted tools boxing is one of those sport where "even your best ain't enough". There are a hell of a lot of solid, dedicated, and tough boxers who can't become a serious threat past a certain point in boxing.

Could he become a fun fighter to watch? Sure. Could he become a "serious threat"? Chances are slim, but MMA in young and it will be a good 5-10 years before we start seeing the "fruit" of the sports promotional efforts. Even with the great athletes today, we may be blown away soon.

this argument was always foolish at best.

the best fighter is the guy who is fights on the street. sure you can take them down and control them, but then they come back with a weapon or freinds and beat the **** out of you/serouisly wound you.

and guess what no reff steps in to save you, their are no weightclasses. In a street fight their are no rules!!!

IN A STREET FIGHT THEIR ARE NO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!

So just remember that, all the training in the world is no substitute for common sense, avoid bad situations when you can.

the best fighter is the guy with the big ****in gun........ he makes the rules, and breaks them.

    see you later space cowboy..

    Fedor.

Here is an interview with boxing coach who has recently held a camp with Denis Lebedev, Denis Bakhtov, Aleks, Fedor and other noted ranked world class MMA fighters and boxers. He states that Fedor has defeated Bakhtov and and other top ranked boxers under boxing rules in training, and would be world champion if he went into boxing due to unmatched speed, reaction time, power, work ethic and experience. Feel free to translate the interview, I will even paste the specific paragraph where he states Fedor beat Bakhtov under boxing rules.

I don't think Fedor would beat either of the Klitschko's in a 12 round fight personally but who knows I guess. Like others have said, I'm sure a few MMA fighters 'could' have been decent boxers had they dedicated their time to that rather than cage fighting. If anyone were to make the switch and be even half successful, I'd say it would have to be in the Heavyweight division due to the current state of the division but even then, the top guys (Klitschkos, Haye, Adamek etc) would dominate and most likely win.

JDS, Belfort, maybe even the odd one with some work i.e. Rampage. It works the same way as a boxer entering MMA. A mixed martial artist must learn to defend better, use the jab more, combos, working the body, better footwork, fight off the ropes, fight inside etc
