Could Oscar Bonavena Have lasted 12 Rounds With Peak Tyson??

Absolutely agree.
He wouldn’t be intimidated by Tyson in the least, which would make for a good fight while it lasted, but he’d probably blasted out at some point.

That was my first thought that Tyson would catch him and stop him, but if it's a 12 rounder Oscar might go the distance . Wouldn't bet on it though as there are some decent arguments on both sides here

 

Tony Tucker got stopped by a number of guys. Smith got stopped by a number of guys. Thomas got stopped by a number of guys. Biggs got stopped a number of times. They got stopped 22 times, by my count.

Yet, Tyson couldn't stop Tucker. Tyson couldn't stop Smith. And Biggs and Thomas both went well past round 3.

Bonavena wasn't a chump. Nobody stopped him but the best heavyweight who ever lived in the 15th Round - a round Tyson NEVER MADE IT TO.

We saw Tyson quit. We saw Tyson try to get DQed when he felt he got head butted. We saw Tyson try to break Botha's arm and not let go. We saw Mike Tyson's hair fall out because he was so stressed out from the pressure of the title.

Bonavena does just fine against Tyson. In fact, given how Oscar got under Ali's skin, I imagine Oscar would anger Tyson to no end and headbutt Tyson. Hold Tyson. Punch Tyson low.

And Tyson will be lucky if he doesn't snap and get DQed and lose by the third round.

But Tyson isn't taking Oscar out. Certainly not early. Oscar was never a quitter, like Tyson quit against McBride.

Tucker was stopped by Bruce Seldon. Bonavena was only stopped by Muhammad Ali in the 15th round.

Tucker also had a broken hand against Tyson. There was nothing coming back at Tyson after the first round. Tyson couldn't put him away.

Mike Tyson in 1987 ... the year he fought four times ... against four fighters who weren't trying to take his head off ... and still went the distance twice ...

Oscar Bonavena in 1968 ... the year Bonavena fought EIGHT TIMES ... went the distance four times ... beat Leotis Martin and Zora Folley on points ... and lost a 15-round decision in a war with Joe Frazier ...

Oscar Bonavena DOES NOT get knocked out by Mike Tyson. In fact, it's a toss-up as to who wins.

Rooney probably gets fired after the fight ... because Tyson wasn't mentally capable of handling the needling and the tactics of Bonavena. Hell, Tyson couldn't handle the tactics of Bonecrusher at that point. He just allowed himself to be held most of the fight and acquiesced.
