Could peak Floyd Mayweather have beat all Sugar Ray Leonard challengers at the stage of their careers when Sugar Ray Leonard beat them?
Well I don't think he beats Hearns, I can't think of a worst style match up for Mayweather at Welterweight than Hearns. Hagler is an unfair match up, because Mayweather never fought as a Middleweight. I don't think he beats Duran at 135, but at 147 it's a pick em. Benitez ? I think Mayweather could win a close decision in a chess match. As for all of Leonard's other most notable opponents at Welterweight ? I think Mayweather beats them all.
Yes, most likely doesn't need a rematch to beat Duran, but beating Hagler and Hearns would obv be challenging.
I think he’d have a decent chance against Duran. Duran’s aggressive pressure will cut no ice with Mayweather. He’ll run and counter and rack up points all day long. Mayweather by majority. Against Hagler? At MW? At first glance I’m laughing because it seems so ludicrous to imagine that Mayweather will get anything but a mega beat down! But on second glance, Hagler was past his best so not the destruction I first thought. But he’s still too strong for Mayweather and Hagler wins by a couple of rounds. Mayweather disputes the decision and asks for a rematch. Hagler tells him to go back down to WW and don’t play with the big boys ever again. Hearns? I don’t see it ending too well for Mayweather. It starts well enough but that long reach and those dangerous fists soon take over. Mayweather will be on the back foot throughout as Hearns goes for the finish. Could be a KO for Hearns but I’m leaning towards a points win like he had over Benitez…except a UD not an MD. Benitez and Mayweather will be a chess match. The judges struggle to keep their eyes open long enough to award Mayweather a split decision win. Or was it a Benitez split decision win? I don’t know, I turned over at halfway to watch Dynasty!
given they all competed at the same weight, and one faded fighter five years late, why not? Whatever Ray did, Floyd does better
As a subset of the question - I think Hearns might be the strongest “never” - or at least I think he’d win more emphatically than the rest.
In Reality ,, Floyd doesn't take any of the fights .. so I dont see him beating any of Ali's Challengers either .. the thread is unrealistic garbage like most Mayweather threads
I'm assuming he fights these guys at the weight Leonard fought them. Duran - Yes, Mayweather will not be dumb enough to trade with him (If it is at Lightweight, Duran by Murder in the 9th) Hagler - No Hearns - **** no Benitez - yes, I believe so
Yes. Hearns is the one that will give him the most trouble and could even beat him, but if Hearns gets tired like he did against Leonard, Mayweather can capitalize.
