    and Norris trounced Leonard

just learn to accept life the way I do!

should I just take the word of some poster over actual events???

    Benitez doesnt have Terry's speed

    leonard doesnt have Jackson's punch

and Hearns doesnt have Terry's all around mobility and lightning hook

or stamina, or ability to tie up

leonard's chin? well, we all know Terry tooks Ray's best, but Ray couldnt take Terry's best!

    go ahead, count the knockdowns

The Leonard that fought Norris was shot. Peak Leonard Knocks Norris out. He's so much more durable than Norris.
    Leonard by KO.
It pains me to pick SRL as I like Norris a hell of alot more but it is what it is.

Yep me too RG. I absolutely loathed Leonard as a young guy due to me being a Duran and Hagler fan. I always found Ray to be a phoney as far as his public persona went and he was the new kind of corporate - " Wall St " type athlete compared to my all time idol, Ali.

Hindsight has made me appreciate what a great fighter he was though. He pretty much had it all. Intelligence, great athleticism, AAA grade hand and foot speed, good power and a great fighting heart.

Keith Mullings didn't think Norris had much of a punch

    no, but Leonard sure did

so much for leonard's Intelligence, great athleticism, AAA grade hand and foot speed, good power and great fighting heart.

simply put, whatever Leonard did, Norris did better

Knocked Leonard clean out of his wheelchair. You'd think Norris at least would have done like Paul Hogan in "Almost an Angel".

I know one thing unfortunately. Boxing is a cruel and harsh mistress. Poor Norris is basically broke and punch drunk unfortunately unlike Leonard who still has his health and his wealth. No justice there...

I actually cannot remember many fighters who went from being world class operators to being completely shot like Norris did without being kayoed prior to losing form. Wilfredo Benitez and Meldrick Taylor are two more but I can't think of any others off hand. Benitez just seemed to lose it prior to the Hamsho fight and that was all she wrote basically.

From what I have read Terry used to spar a LOT more than most fighters and like Wilfredo Benitez he took up the sport at a very young age. He had near 300 amateur fights and evidently sparred a lot as a young kid with his older and larger brother Orlin.

A damn shame as Norris always seemed like a nice guy.

    Cheers All.

I feel exactly the same way except about Ali. I'm a Frazier ,Holmes guy myself.
Begrudgingly later in life I had to admit to myself that Leonard at his best was one of the very best fighters I ever saw.

Hi RG , things used to get pretty ugly at the dinner table when I was a kid as my older and younger brothers are - were ferocious Frazier fans while I was an Ali fan all the way.

Funnily enough I actually admire Joe as much as I do Ali these days.

I do believe that you have to try and be unbiased and have an open mind which means that opinions should never writ in stone but always open to change.

    Cheers Mate.

I trained at his Gym in the early 90's
Befor Joe got divorced I lived about 3 miles away from his house.
When my Pop was a cop in Philadelphia he used to run into a young Joe now and then while out on his beat. He had nothing but nice things to say about Joe.
I am also a huge fan of Duran and I got my theory on the 2nd Leonard fight and it's not the one Leonard and Dundee claim it was LOL

He got Parkinson's. But he isn't broke. He won several million dollars in a lawsuit against Don King years after retiring and has a beautiful wife, they're selling fitness equipment or own a chain of gyms now I think
