Could Prime Wlad beat Prime Mike Tyson with his clinching tactics?

Tyson was a great inside fighter. I think Mike would have figured out Wlad's repetitive MO pretty quickly.

 

A prime Tyson lands and takes Wlad out.

Wlad has never had a set of whiskers that is elite. Having said that if Tyson has an off night, against big men in his prime he did go the full 12 rounds. So a full 12 round could happen- but I doubt it happens more than 2 times if they fought 10 times because of Wlads punch resistance.

Vitali on the other hand is a different animal and would beat Tyson over 12 rounds most times. Vitali would win 8 out of 10 times vs a prime Tyson.

 

Mike Tyson is a bad matchup for Wlad even with clinching. I don't think Wlad has seen that type of energy in his face like that.

 

Wlad would be the best big man with Lewis who Mike fought. Tyson had Problems with a good jab. So we have probably the fastest super heavy of all time with one of the biggest left hooks, right Hand and one of the best jabs ever. Of course wlad could KO Tyson or win a boring wide ud

I'd pick a prime Mike Tyson, but Wlad has a chance if he can keep the distance for 12 rounds with his jab.

 

Prime Tyson with the peekaboo and explosive hooks would be a hard night for any ATG, not just Wlad. I think that Wlad would beat him on the outside and control him in the clinch ... BUT ... there's the moment where you pass from, say, a jab to a clinch, and that moment, though brief, is enough for Mike to exploit and detonate in.

This is a matchup where I believe it would be hard to pick a clear winner beforehand, because we simply don't know how they would stack up H2H for real. They've both looked so good when their night went well.

My prediction: Mike does a 'Sanders' on Wlad in the first 4 rounds and KO's him ... or ... Wlad takes him the distance in a punishing beatdown. I don't fancy Tyson's chances when the match gets longer, the same as I don't fancy Wlad's chin if Mike detonates on him. Tyson will absolutely have to avoid Wlad Dr Octopussing him, because carrying a 250lb dude on his back is going to tire him out fast, no matter how great he was.

Shoot me for this, but I suspect that whoever wins makes it look easy, because whenever Wlad manages to run his gameplan he is very dominant, and whenever Tyson executes his gameplan - and yeah, execute is a good description - he looked unbeatable.

It's a tossup imho.

 

Oh, hang on. I just saw "without clinching" in the title.

I'd say 60/40 Tyson then.

A young Wlad had a great offense of his own, but Tyson had a good chin whereas Wlad is average in that department. You have to fancy Tyson landing sooner or later.

 

Bonecrusher Smith nullified Tyson with his clinching and in Wlad not only would Tyson be facing the biggest and most athletic opponent he'd ever faced but the strongest.

Prime Tyson was a phenom but let's be realistic.

Bonecrusher Smith lost pretty much every round and took shots that would've layed Wlad out for a week. Wlad doesn't have the mental fortitude to keep his cool in the clinch vs Tyson. He expends too much nervous energy and blows his gasket before the halfway point.
Which is unlikely to happen anyway as Tyson bombs him clean out in two rounds max. Wlad doesn't stand a hope in hell. Clinch or no clinch. Mike was all wrong for him in every way.
