basically would the best version and fight RJJ could put together, be enough to defeat Frazier on a average night for him?

No, and he would have made sure the fight never took place.

Let's just say that it would have to be an uncharactoristically "average" night for Joe, and even then I wouldn't favor Roy.

Jones simply didn't have Ali's height, reach or chin to be able to beat Frazier. And nor did he have the type of size, power or ability to break him down as Foreman did.. You can't just beat joe Frazier on speed and skill alone. There are certain additional tools that are required to get the job done.. Maybe he could have taken a decision over the 11 fight prospect version of Frazier who struggled with bonavena in their first meeting. But even that's a stretch..

No, no, and no again. He would get knocked out. This is the nonsense that Max Kellerman was blabbering about some years ago.

Totally useless tidbit: no fighter who weighed less than 200 pounds lasted the distance with frazier. And that includes some solid guys; Quarry twice, Doug Jones, Machen, and Foster.

    No, never.
But your post reminds me of a similar situation.
I know I've annoyed folks on board by saying that Eddie Gregory was BETTER than Michael Spinks and I CAN be annoying. :nut
I just saw the perfect fighting machine in Gregory: big right, numbing left hook, jab, rock solid jaw, ability to adapt during a fight, etc...
He just had so many 'head-demons' that it's hard to see just how great he was (or could have been).
Prior to his defense against Spinks, the (idiot) ballooned up to 200 to fight Snipes as a Heavy?? What kind of nonsense was that? Plus IMO Snipes was an awkward wannabe whose only claim to fame was a big right if someone stood there and let him telegraph it (how Holmes got hit by this wannabe is beyond me)
The Spinks fight almost never took place. Eddie had to get into a sweat box and lose 15-20 pounds in the week before the Spinks defense. How many saw the fight? Eddie came in looking like a shriveled pear and still had a comfortable lead at the mid-point before wilting (like a pear). Spinks' big bomb that dumped Eddie late would have put anyone else out but Eddie got up and fought on.
I just think Gregory had more skill than 99% of any of the fighters that ever stepped into the ring and he ****ed it away!
Back to thread: Joe would smooch RJJ...

John Ruiz says thanks for the kind thoughts but he isn't a pimple on Joe's ass.

^ If Jones is Superman then a Frazier left hook would be his kryptonite!

That left hook would miss over and over again but would most likely land at some point.
