Could Roberto Duran actually beat Tommy Hearns in a rematch?

I know Hearns is a nightmare style wise, but could Duran have beaten him one way or another. Just choose 'Roberto could never beat Tommy' if you don't think so.
I know Tommy has a wicked right hand that could take virtually anyone out , but Duran had the better chin and conditioning.

The way Tommy KO'd Duran was brutal and I don't see how Duran would have been able to overcome Tommy's reach no matter how many times they fought.

Tommy KO over and over again.

Tommy Hearns was a stylistic nightmare for Duran. I doubt anything would change had there been a rematch.

Style and size don't work in Durans favour here.

    I dont think so .

Hearns would have even less respect for Duran in a rematch , due to him steamrolling Duran in "just 2 rnds" .

Duran would have survived longer in a 2nd fight , but it would have been the same result .

Tommy was at his best at 154. Duran wasn't giving a **** and had a party hard lifestyle he was losing to Lang and Benitez at 154 too. At 147 it would of been the other way around. Duran was already slowing down after the No Mas fight. Shoulda retired, but kept on fighting. Tommy was just too good, too fast, too explosive, and too strong at 154. He'd beat SRL at 154 too.

  10. Nah, more of the same. He might of lasted longer due to knowing what was coming but I don't think Duran had the speed to back then to get on the inside, he may not of ever had that type of speed.

Just all wrong for him, size, style, and timing of the fight also.

The only chance Duran would have against Hearns would have been if the Montreal version fought him at 147. Even that would have been a tall order but it would have given him the best chance.

The rematch is a different question, and keep in mind Duran did beat Barkley who's about he same size as Hearns and beat Hearns twice, so it's no inconceivable that some version of Duran could have bet Hearns. But if they fought 10 times, Tommy would likely win 6-7 of those times.

    No.

Unless it was in a phone booth, and Tommy didn't have the room to operate.

At 147 Duran would have really been clobbered.

Duran had size disadvantages. Tommy is 185 c.m. while Duran is 165 c.m.

Many don't know that Duran only trained for the Hearns fight for two weeks. He had been partying. He fought for some quick money. Barkley knocked Hearns out, but go watch and compare Duran/Barkley fight. Duran beat a much bigger fighter who had knocked Hearns out. Duran also fought to a very close decision with Marvin Hagler for 15 rounds, another fighter who knocked Hearns out.
