Could or would? I think it's possible that Roy could have beaten the following HW's: James Toney Mike Tyson Evander Holyfield Hasim Rahman Kirk Johnson David Tua Andrew Golota Corrie Sanders and Chris Byrd would have been extremely difficult. I don't think he'd have beaten Lewis or the K's. :good
:rofl Boy... Some of those would be BRUTAL KO losses for Jones. Imagine Tua landing that left hook on his tiny pea head. Imagine Tyson unloading on him... Rahman, and Johnson hit pretty hard as well... Holyfield too tough, and skilled for Roys speed to make a difference, he's not that fraud Ruiz. Heavyweight Toney was a different animal as well, not sure that Roy would have been able to beat him.
I suspect that he'd have been criticised for it, and it wouldn't have enhanced his legacy or his resume.
You're entitled to your opinion. But you're obviously only looking from the perspective of if he'd have been hit flush. If Mike and Tua had've landed clean, they'd have taken his head off. That's obvious to anyone. But I think he could have stayed out of harms way against Tua. Mike was shot by that point. Toney was far too slow to have beaten Roy IMO, and I'd definitely have favoured Roy over Evander at that stage. None of those guys were huge HW's, and Roy's speed would have caused them huge problems.
I would probably favor Tua over Jones... Holyfield and Tyson were shells of themselves and would have been beat IMO. Roy has already proven that his speed was too much for Toney. I think Roy would beat him at HW too, he certainly would have been favored to at the time.
Great post. Tua would have been very dangerous. I suppose it would have depended on how he approached the fight. I could definitely envisage him catching Roy, but I also think Roy could have outboxed him. But I'd have been very confident in him beating Evander and Toney, and confident that he could have outboxed Mike.
If he went for a point decision by hitting Valeuv in the stomach, he should be able to win rounds. Can't really see Valuev knock him out. Too slow and average power.
Lol at adding Golota to that list... He knocks Roy out providing he doesn't suffer a mental breakdown.
You can laugh all you want. Golota was terribly inconsistent and mentally weak. Yes, if he'd have caught Roy, that would have been it. That applies to anyone who Roy fought at HW. But just because they had the power to stop Roy, it doesn't mean they definitely would have done. Are you telling me that there's no way that Roy could have outboxed Golota in 2003? You wouldn't have given him even a chance?
Golota was a head case but extremely talented. I along with most other people though he did more than enough to beat Ruiz, and a lot of people thought he did enough to beat Byrd as well. I don't think Roy would have been able to outbox Golota, no I don't... Nor do I think he would have been able to eat his shots like Ruiz, and Byrd did.
Okay. I respect your opinion. Were there any HW's from the early 00's who you think Roy could possibly have beaten?
