Could Roy Jones have done as well vs Louis as Schmeling did in their 1st bout?

I just feel people define his greatness by the fact that he beat a really bad heavyweight.

I believe I read the same threads you do? I don’t see anyone overrating him based upon beating Ruiz? I do see you underrating him based upon your perception of his performance against Montell as his measuring stick.

    I don’t like RJJ
But pre prime MW was great
    SMW maybe the best
    LHW possible top 10
HW a blip on the radar, who might be competitive with some under skilled HW or others who moved up as well

Louis and Schmeling are nightmare matchups for Jones. Jones was brilliant at middle where he stayed only briefly and brilliant at Super middle. When he moved to light heavy he was still elite but faced lesser competition and was looking less superhuman. He then skipped cruiser for one fight against a tough yet clumsy and non athletic heavy in Ruiz. Who Jones made look slow and bad.
In Schmeling and Louis Jones would be fighting two men with expert timing and condition far more athletic than Ruiz around 190-200lbs each. Basically elite cruiser. I don’t like those matchups for Jones. Guys quick enough to counter him with enough power to crack his iffy chin. And let’s not forget Jones used steroids.

What the obsession with Roy at heavy in the 30's against Louis or his opponents. Jones was one of the greats but a win over Ruiz proves very little at the weight certainly not enough to think he would have any chance against Louis.
