Lets roll it back. Jones fresh off his Olympic loss turns pro May 1989 but in this timeline he gets a world title shot right out of the gate.

The titilsts at this time are
    40-0 Darrrin Van Horn (IBF)
    24-9-1 Rene Jacquot (WBC)
    37-1 Julian Jackson (WBA)

I think Jackson would of been a real bad choice, but the other titilsts...beatable by a 0-0 Jones Jr?

I'd pay so much money to watch Roy execute Van Horn.

Yes, even a debut Jones would've sslaughtered Van Horn and Jacquot.

Jackson would have been far too dangerous. But, he would have probably beaten Jacqot. (Hard to say for sure, though. Going from the amateurs to fighting a seasoned pro is not always as easy as it looks. Even if the pro is a level below. See Lomachencko vs Salido)

He would have obliterated Van Horn.

Jackson would’ve been extremely dangerous but Roy would’ve had a shot.

He definitely could’ve beat the other two!

I doubt anyone is sending a debutant, regardless of their talent, in against Jackson. The risk greatly outweighs the reward in this instance.

Jackson would KO Roy in Roy's debut, let's be real.

By about his 15th fight, Roy was I'm sure ready to beat Jackson.

There was a thread asking which fighters might have been suited to win a title in their debut (in real time, taking in account who the champs were when they debuted) and I thought RJJ was the obvious choice.

I'd fancy Nigel Benn to cause Frank Tate hell in 1987.

For the record there is a man who entire professional career as a boxer was as a fill in fight against Prime Ernie Shavers. Anything goes.

Oh and Archie Moore fought a guy in his debut directly after KOing Yvon Durelle.

Didn't a gold medalist fight Floyd Patterson in his debut?
