John Ruiz was the weakest opponent in that time, that's why Jones picked him

Jones wouldn`t have stood a chance with a heavyweight like AJ with that kind of reach.

No I answer questions on Quora about boxing and when this one came up, that`s when I noticed idiots think Jones could have beat Ruiz.

His body shots crippled AJ, he`s the best body puncher in the heavyweight division, just think if his shots had that effect on AJ`s massive trunk what they would do to Roy`s tiny body, De La Hoya?

Ruiz would walk through Jones and stop him in 4.

Getting in with someone like Ruiz Jnr who can KO him with one punch and has very fast hands, its a major concern. The difference in speed between John Ruiz and Ruiz Jnr is massive, he has more balls too..Its suicide for Jones Jnr to get in with him, he wouldn't have made that fight happen anyway imo

John Ruiz with his style and toughness might outlast Joshua and stop him, not because Ruiz is great(underrated imo) purely because what we now know about Joshua

True, Andy is a lot faster than John was, but he has similarly slow footwork.
And since when is Ruiz KOing guys with one punch?

I swear, people focus too much on the old Jones. The one who fought John Ruiz was a different beast.

Good fight, interesting, Prime Roy wins a decision most likely, same height as Ruiz, longer reach, quicker hands and feet, he wouldn't be standing in the pocket for long to be clipped, Roy boxes/ pot shots & runs to a decision. The 35 yo Roy that beat Ruiz for the wba title was past prime.

He KO's jones with one punch imo, not in general does he KO people with one punch but in this case it can happen..If Ruiz has the balls to take it to Joshua, then hes gonna walk right over Jones

Jones who was one of the most elusive fighters in his prime?
    Ruiz who struggles with footwork?

Yeah, it's not as black and white as it seems.
