Could Roy Jones Jr. have won the heavyweight championship from someone like Andy Ruiz Jr.?

This is turning out to be just another thread to diminish Andy Ruiz. Only a moron could equate a beached whale like John Ruiz to Andy Ruiz.

I'll go with my heart and say ,Jones UD.

Jones is probably the most talented fighter since Ray Robinson. All of Jones chin issues happened after his drop from heavyweight. Ruiz hit Jones with a clean right hand in the first round and Jones did a little stutter step but that was it.

I believe John Ruiz has more power than Andy Ruiz. The AJ fight notwithstanding. AJ was in crap shape and his flaws were exposed.

Look, John Ruiz was an OK heavyweight in his own way. I didn't like his jab n grab style, it was boring, but he made it effective. Unfortunately he was tailor made for RJJ to exploit. Andy Ruiz is completely the opposite type of fighter. Some people won't acknowledge that styles really can make fights. * shrug *

So so right .If Jones had even dared take on a top heavyweight other than Ruiz , he'd have been hammered !

    Tough one to call.

Jones could snatch it, but he would have to be on point all fight long. He would give Ruiz hell with his movement, as Ruiz doesn't have the quickest feet. This is his only way to win. Pot shot and move.

Ruiz, whilst not as quick with his feet as he is with his hands, will have to rely on trying to time Jones if he can't cut the ring off effectively. Ruiz has decent timing, quick hands, doesn't mind throwing when his opponent throws, and backs up his counters with more shots, so he could catch Jones out over the long haul.

As for Jones' chin; Jones probably couldn't take Ruiz's power, but his chin was far better before he lost the muscle weight to drop down from HW to face Tarver. When I hear people mention Jones' glass jaw, and act like he was like that his entire career, you know that they are just basing that of past peak Jones.

Yes he would have. People, being as clueless as always, seem to only remember RJJ from his last fight. Prime RJJ would give ANYONE in history hell if not absolutely massacre them. Whether at Heavyweight, Middle or Light Heavyweight.

Any Ruiz wouldn't even qualify as a tune-up for prime RJJ.

Andy Ruiz is a far better fighter than the Ruiz that Roy beat at HW. Ruiz is not going to be bothered by Roys power and eventually stops him by ko.

People picking Jones should go back and watch the Ruiz fight again. He really wasnt as mobile and slick as is being made out in here. People are actlike like he was Mayweather against Canelo. He wasnt. He guarded up, he traded, ect, plenty of times. Andy would have his opportunities.

As soon as Andy connects, Jones' brain disconnects.
