Sharkey was fightitng with two broken ribs and a fractured finger so he might have been a trifle inconvenienced himself. He still was level or held a slight lead at the 15th rds stage :patsch

What was the big reason Jeffries did not stop Sharkey in their first fight?
Dont tell me , he held back for fear of killing Sharkey.:yep

That was his scorecard, yes. But the newspapermen and others present obviously felt that the fight was closer than what Greggains had it. Any way you slice it, it was far from being an uncompetitive fight.

From the reactions to Creggains verdict in the Johnson v Hart fight ,I would not place much credence in the accuracy of his scoring of a fight.

The difference my myopic friend is Jeffries did the damage to Sharkey with his fists. Jeffries injury was well documented before the match. He hurt his shoulder in training. The shoulder was re-injured when he floored Sharkey in the 2nd fight with a hook that sent the sailor down head first.

If you watch the films ( I say you hardly do, because you do not comment on them ) you will see Jeffries hardly uses his left injured arm at all.

Sharkey was in his prime, and rather durable for his first fight, which was clearly won by Jeffries. Stopping a prime Sharkey was no easy task. The man was durable, and had an iron will. Still, a relatively green Jeffries cleanly beat Sharkey in the first fight and floored him, and pretty much ruined him physically in the rematch.

No man can stop all opponents. For example, Marciano couldn't get Ted Lowry out of there in 2 matches, yet no one would question him as a puncher.
