No. LHW is just too strong, too deep.

Bob Foster was demonic. Made people dead. Archie Moore, 130KOs, was flooring Rocky Marciano at 38. KOing Yvon Durelle at 43. Sam Langford was probably his most destructive at LHW. Joe Choynski and Tom Sharkey were violent hitters at around the turn of the century as well. Historian Herbert Goldman credits Tiger Jack Fox with 109 KOs (19 more than BoxRec). That includes being the second man to stop Jersey Joe Walcott and ONLY man to TKO the immovable Lou Brouillard. At 38 years old, Fox gave up 44 pounds to JD Turner and floored him twice. Michael Spinks had absurd power in BOTH hands: jab was potent, KOd men like Mustafa Wasajja and Marvin Johnson (another brutal hitter) with left hands alone. Bob Satterfield KOd Oakland Billy Smith in one round at LHW in 1948. Irish Bob Murphy was the second man not named Ray Robinson to stop Jake LaMotta. Paul Berlenbach holds stoppages over studs like Jimmy Slattery (who was stopped just 4 times in 129 fights) and Battling Siki (stopped just 3 times in 95 bouts).

Just too much history at LHW.

Kovalev is brutal too, though. Stopped Darnell Boone. First to send a highly-touted Nathan Cleverly to the mat (I think) and stopped him in Round 4 (should've been Round 3 but the ref helped him to his feet). His best stoppage is still the TKO3 over a jet-lagged Gabriel Campillo who was respectably ranked at the time.

A lot of great punchers at Light Heavyweight. He just doesn't have the resume yet, I really do hope the other Alphabet champs step to the plate and fight him, what Stevenson pulled was bush league.

Krushes another guy and this time was easier than i thought.

that body work, no man in the division can hold up to that.

No bernard hopkins will not survive that body work especially 49yrs old.

No he's not, his power is carrying him and it just might allow him to clean the division. He's a solid boxer, nothing special. His power on the other hand, very special.

He doesn't need it if every shot he throws is like getting hit with a truck, he didn't even hit Cleverly clean but Nathan said he knew the man was a freak power wise.

Among the best the division has ever seen for sure. No one will argue that. Kovalev is a rare puncher who just happens to have a good chin and skills.

Kovalev for the second time this year has done something that I have never see
before lo these many years. Recently and last night Kovalev has dropped a man and severely hurt him with a "left straight jab to the solar plexis. He just ramrods a straight
jab into the stomach without much effort and the opponent goes down in great pain from
this "effortless" punch which tells me K has UNUSUAL power in his punches....He might
not have the one punch knockout power of a LH Bob Foster or Bob Satterfield, but
he hurts his opponents by his devastating hurtful hands. The real deal...

Good post. You have to like Kovalev's crushing body shots, and ability to switch gears between offense and defense.

It could be me, but I think some boxing fans who didn't like the Klitschkos like Kovalev, And Golovkin partly because they big punchers who fight guys their own size.

Or more like they get hit once, and quickly realize advancing or trying to counter is going to get them knocked out. The Klitschko's impose their size, and ring generalships on smaller fighters.

No fighter does something he does not want to do.

In GGG and Kovalev's case their opponents do not have the same unfair advantages in a pound for pound sense.
