It would be interesting if Cuba would allow them to go pro. I think they would be the new Puerto Rico.

I would love to see that. The more competition the better fights we the fans would get.

This is how Boxrec has the Cubans ranked. I think Abril should be higher than Rigondeaux and Lara to be honest. The Rios win should put him above both of them as I dont think they have beaten anybody in Rios level.

You can do this yourself, we have about 35 boxers fighting as professional right now, and Rigondeaux, Hernandez, Gamboa (his belts were taking away, some BS) and Abril (Interim but should be a full Champ) are World Champs, then we have Lara, Franco, Jhonson, Solis, Ortiz and a few others that I just can't remember now, are on the way up, common you do have to admit that 4 out 35 or so, and still counting is a very good %, Mexico have probably millions of boxers, USA the same, Pinoys etc.. On top of that all the sacrifices that they need to make in order to compete professionally, and I'll say that, domination, no, but they are pretty damm good...

I can say Philippines has better pro history than Cuba and they can't do a **** about it and just end up call me a *** or something.

Anyways, yeah, Philippines does indeed have a better boxing history than Cuba in the pros.

And on a side note, Ceferino garcia invented the bolo.

They are the most dominant by far if you look at the avg winning percentage, it's likely over 80% for Cuban pros. It's a unique situation since there are very few of them, and most that defected were world class amateurs. Also, most of them are moved fast, those are not inflated records.

At this point, I think Cuba is clearly ahead of PR in terms of world class fighters. PR has fallen on hard times recently, but have some good prospects as usual. I'm curious about the next gen of Cubans after the Olympics, but none of the current Cuban prospects look as good as Dulorme, or Velazquez, if he ever comes back.

 

Correction. MEXICO. We have finished the last few years with the most world champs.

 

Saul, I agreed with you must of the time but you know that the WBC favor Mexicans fighters all the time, in fact they some times manufacture a couples of champs, quantity yes, quality I don't think so, it was a time that Barrera, Morales, Marquez bros, etc... were roaming the boxing scene, not anymore.

 

Yes ceferino was throwing the bolo before the Kid but Gavilan made it famous, and he have to throw it because he had arthritis, and I don't agreed with you about the better history, I think they both have a great history...
