With Nick halling being as poor as he is and rawlings continuing to be an abomination could a network snap up holdsworth and win over the boxing fans and public?
Is he the guy who seemingly commentates on every sport for Eurosport? I don't see him moving. Bump Andy Clarke up to the main shows and sack Halling.
Farrar is very good on channel 5. Well rounded, experienced, and has the likeability factor Rawling and especially Halling lack.
Steve Holdsworth is brilliant and he's been brilliant on Eurosport for about 25 years. He has worked once or twice on sky . If my memory serves me he did Scott Welch v Joe Bugner but his sometimes ragged preparation would not be looked upon well. I've been banging the drum for him for years, I had a letter published in Boxing News a long time ago praising him but he's always been on the outside. He's a breath of fresh air to the pathetic commentators we have now but I fear he's a bit of a loose cannon. Oh I wish Harry Carpenter and Reg Gutteridge were still around.
Commentating in Britain has been dire since forever. The lead commentator is horrendous, the ****ysts are worse. We need commentators that are either super slick and professional OR give it the Hollywood and try to make it entertaining. On the flip side we need people other than boring Watt, we need our HBO equivalents of Foreman and Jones i.e. Benn, Eubank, Naz. People have always bigged up Holdsworth but he hasn't blown me away. I usually only listen to HBO commentary because they've got the good balance of slick Lampley, wise Merchant (forget Max) and a Steward, Foreman, Jones type to add some inside knowledge.
