If so, when and against whom? Could he have regained a portion of the heavyweight title, or would his chronic hand problems keep him away from the belts?

I personally think that he still had the physical tools and skills to be a top player in the division at the time, but good for him for recognizing that he wouldn’t ever be the top dog with Wladimir around and decided to retire with his health and wealth intact.

Sultan had good boxing skills. But, he was never good enough to be the best in his division.

It's awkward, because he was never beating Wlad, and Wlad continued to be the man to beat in the division for several years after Ibragimov last fought.

I certainly don't see a scenario where Sultan returns after 2015 and finds any meaningful success. Anytime before that, however, and he always has that h2h bogeyman in his way.

If he were born ten years earlier or ten years later, he would have accomplished more than just a scant eight month WBO title reign.

If Sultan was born a decade or so later than he was and came to prominence around that stretch of Wlad retiring and before Usyk made his run at Heavyweight… I can DEFINITELY see Sultan being the top guy. Especially if he got with the right coach (Mayweather just made him more cautious and boring) maybe like an Abel Sanchez or Freddie Roach. I think Sultan would KO wilder and give Fury all he could handle after Tyson comes back.

I have always thought Sultan was every bit as good as Povetkin. Maybe a little better do to him having an iron chin.
