As we know, Tank Davis has officially moved up to 140 & will have his first fight there with WBA (regular) champion Mario Barrios. This is obviously a marketing ploy by his promoter & TMT to make a showcase fight for Tank to beat another unknown Latin American fighter (LSC being the only credible one, but was undersized & had no power). However, this could be a potential banana slip for Tank & TMT Promotions.

Unlike any of Tank's previous opponents - Barrios can bang & we don't know how good Tank's chin is. Sure Barrios isn't a very skilled fighter & hasn't fought anybody noteworthy, but he's the generic hard-hitting Latin American slugger who can end it with his power.

This reminds of another situation involving Tanks good friend - Adrien Broner. The Maidana fight was supposed to be a showcase fight for Broner - leading to bigger & better things to come, such as potential big fights with Khan, Mayweather & Pacquiao (which he got years later & lost). Maidana was just supposed to be a stepping stone for Broner to make a statement on.

However, he was beaten in devastating fashion (Kudos to him for taking such an ass whooping & going the distance though). Broner has never recovered since.

So it's not all in the bag for Tank yet, as he has to overcome a bigger stronger opponent for the first time in his career who can punch.

I think Tank is making a mistake jumping up two weight classes and he’s also got legal troubles hanging over him. He likes to drink too much and isn’t living the life he should be living. He is potentially setting himself up for a fall with his outside of the ring lifestyle and what seems to be a sometimes lackadaisical approach to training.

Hopefully Josh Taylor ****s him up

But then Josh holds all the belts and not the "regular" title so Tank probably won't fight him...

Not only could he possibly end up like Broner, but he could end up like Luis Nery did last week. Barrios is no joke, and quite frankly, I don't think Tank's power was all that at 135, he could barely stop a one legged glass jawed Gamboa, he did slightly better than featherfisted Haney. So it could be even more diminished at 140. This is a terrible idea IMO, and I not only think Barrios is a banana peel, but that he'll stop Davis. He's not all that different stylewise from LSC, who was giving him fits before the stoppage. Only he's 3 division north. Also, I'd argue with the point that he isn't a very skilled fighter & hasn't fought anybody noteworthy, because the reality is, Batyr Akhmedov might be more skilled than anyone Tank has fought aside from Pedraza, and while I thought the scorecards were iffy, the fact that not only did Barrios hang with Batyr, but he dropped him twice, and he's a VERY heavy handed southpaw used to taking the punches of other 140lbrs. So yeah, Stank might be ****ed, Luis Nery bullied by a much bigger bully style..

He was ducking Loma for years. I hope somehow he will fight him and end Tanks hypejob career. (He is okay, but not as good as people say)

Tank is an idiot...........a lazy idiot that should not even be at 135 let alone 140. I have to question whether his team even really cares for his wellbeing. I'd say yes he absolutely could end up like Broner who moved up far higher than he ever should've, now it's too late and impossible for him to move back down and course correct.

Tank has more dog in him than Broner does, so competitively I expect him to do better. (Broner is very tough but doesn't fight at another gear.)

But I agree with the broader point that he's moving up too far, at too young an age, and it's going to cost him sooner than later.

Tank was 146.6 on fight night against Gamboa. He clearly can't make 130-135 without draining himself.

    Dangerous move up
Dangerous 1st opponent to test the waters in a New weight division.
Plus his living dangerous lifestyle outside of the ropes

    = potential fail for Tank.

all that said hats off to him if he Sparks Barrios ... I just don’t think it’s very likely.

Maidana actually had some skill to go with his power. Not so sure about Barios. Even if tank wins though 140 is just too much and he'll find out the hard way eventually.

Of all the fighters that idolizing Floyd and being his entourage, is there one that understood that behind the media facade, there was the hardest working gym rat on the planet living a drug/alcohol-free life? Trouble found Floyd later but he never every let a single training session slip and never left the sparring session if anyone was still standing in front of him.

Tank is dumb moving up to 140 when 135 is where the money fights are is mistake #1. Mistake #2 is moving to 140 when you're already small at 130 or 135 where you will face much bigger men who will be able to take your power more often than not. With his size and style that will spell disaster for him all because he was too lazy to commit to staying in shape year round.

That's not even an outlandish amount of weight gain for a fighter (even at the lower weight levels). There's a long line of fighters who gain that much. It's not draining, it's discipline (or lack thereof)

I forgot who Barrios was until I saw a clip the other day, that is a bad style for Tank.

Let's say he did beat Barrios, what would he look like against Akhmedov? That's a nightmare for him.
