COULD TEO IN HIS FIRST PRO FIGHT IN 1980 KO COONEY?

No I don't. But this is a legit question. Could he survive Teos straight right to the head? Cooney was clumsy. I think Teo could take Cooney with 1 punch before rd 1 is over. Who would YOU BET on? Be truthful.
All you Cooney fans & haters have an opinion. Give it please.

I'm glad you at least admit Cooney had a dynamite left hook. I think his left hook is one of the most powerful in boxing history. I think that Teofilo could've developed into a good enough fighter to beat 1980 Cooney. Do I think he beats him in his first pro fight? Simply put, no.

if he hit him sure, but I think Gerry being such a fast starter would be right on him and knock him senseless in the first rd

Teo couldn't Igor in 2 tries. Cooney would take 1 or 2 rounds to coldcock him.

Very few Cuban amateurs ever panned out and most of them have had abysmal Glass Jaws. Remember how much Jorge Luis Gonzalez was hyped? He was a total Glass Jawed fraud. The wind from punches knocked that guy down.

Gerry Cooney was a very clumsy fighter with lack of balance, too protected. He feasted on escapees from the boxing rest home, Ken Norton and Jimmy Young. He would have gotten beaten by a prime Pinklon Thomas or a Terrible Tim Witherspoon. Gerry would make a nice friend to go to the library with but he was a novelty.

I don't hate the guy but I still say he is the kind of guy that would be fun to hang around with like going to the library. But as a fighter, beating up two has beens does not make you a world beater. His management sheltered him too much. He reminds me of Toro Moreno of the motion picture from 1956, The Harder They Fall, starring Humphrey Bogart, Rod Steiger, Jersey Joe Walcott, Jan Sterling, and Max Baer Sr. Poor Toro was sheltered until he took a horrifying beating at the hands of Baer. Cooney was sadly exposed as nothing but a novelty against Larry Holmes in 1982.

I think Stevenson probably would KO him, yes.
    In 1980.
It's not as if Cooney was a particularly seasoned professional.

Stevenson v Tate in the professionals around that time is way more interesting.
Tate held the WBA title at the beginning of 1980, and had done 15 rounds before. Imagine if Tate instead of fighting Weaver, and Stevenson instead of going to Moscow Olympics, were matched.

Tate's chance to avenge this ....
